Flat enough for chisels
Edit: after testing with a feeler gauge, its flat when using the 0.04mm gauge. That is flat to 1/1000 if an inch. It's flat enough for me to flatten my chisels on. I'll be taking my plane sole to it next. Works as needed!Edit: I was able to flatten my plane iron and get a good edge. Keep in mind, sharpening by hand requires understanding finger pressure but this gets the job done very well. As far as my plane sole goes, thats next on the list but, if that's your goal I would recommend getting a larger glass surface as this really isn't big enough for that goal. As far as flattening chisels and irons or sharpening with some wet dry, this is a great product.

I use float glass for stone flattening
This is a great piece or float glass for 20 bucks. I use it with Sic powder for flattening resin bonded diamond and resin bonded cbn stones... as well as for flattening water stones like shapton glass, chosera stones, boride Alox and SIC bench stones and other similar stones.... a nice piece of float glass and some 60, 120, 240 grit sic powder and you in business. Nothing better then always having dead flat stones to sharpen on.I use these smaller pieces just for quick flattenings when I'm just doing one or two stones and I keep a piece of 16x16x4 inch marble for when I'm flattening a bunch of stones or have some that I have heavily dished. Perfectly flat marble is the best as the Sic powder doesn't eat it up nearly as fast as it does float/tempered glass but it's big and heavy so I always keep a small piece float glass around when I'm just doing small quick flattenings. So if you need a dead flat piece of float glass to flatten on this is a great deal. If you want the best go get you a piece of marble but your gonna pay A LOT more for it. The nice thing about marble tho is as it wears from the Sic powder you can take it to a counter place and they will put a perfectly flat surface back on it for free or a couple bucks at most so it will last basically forever. I simply have my marble surfaced once a year and it's perfect. This you can't do that with but it's only 20 bucks and will last you a good long time. The Sic powder does absolutely scratch it up and slowly eats it but I would imagine you would get a couple hundred light flattenings out of a piece before the Sic has ate it up enough that is starts to not be true enough to affect you and then you have another side to use so it will last ya a long time. I sharpen professionally so I'm flattening stones every day so keep that in mind when I'm talking about wear. Most people likely wouldn't ever wear one enough to have to replace it.

It's Expensive, But Priced For Convenience
$20 for a small piece of glass is a lot of money, but it's flat and thick and will be great for sharpening or flattening stones. It's possible to spend a week or two looking around for some scrap glass from a broken cabinet or other furniture to use, or eat the high cost of this and have something right away.In my opinion, a more proportional price would be $15 considering there is a pack of three sheets of this glass plus a sandpaper set for $52 at the time of this review from the same seller. Aside from price, It would be nicer if it was at least another inch larger in both directions to fit more sandpaper and not be cramped, but it's usable as is.

Fast shipment, extremely well packaged to prevent damage — and dead flat as advertised!
This is an excellent seller, an excellent product, and excellent service. I am working to restore some old planes and chisels, and as a starting point needed a dead flat surface to ensure that my sharpening stones are flat, and that the soles of my planes are flat. This glass plate does what I need for those tasks. It was shipped quickly, and arrived in a package heavily wrapped with bubble wrap and foam to ensure it arrived in one piece. (It did.)Highly recommended.

It's glass.
Arrived unbroken in fantastic protective packaging, my thanks to the manufacturer (not amazon).Glass seems really flat, and the slab is thick enough to feel substantial. I don't know anything about the sharpening system, but I certainly don't regret paying the few bucks extra for what I got.

It does take a little longer to Lapp stones Insted of diamond plates put great alternative. Make sure you get the rock tumbler grit.
