RFID mechanism work very well, doesn’t seem to weigh 170 lbs (as in product description) my guess is it weighs less than 100 lbs. Definitely bolt this down. Sturdy, non fire resistant - but a very good quality security Cabinet (not a Safe) for securing anything you need fast access to. Relatively thin gauge metal with the exception of the door. Arrived well packed, un-damaged and very easy to program/set up. Highly recommended for storing items that need moderate security with rapid access but not fire protection or higher levels of theft protection.

I was very impressed with this safe from the time it was delivered. It has a very substantial weight to it without being overly difficult for me to move around by myself. After I got it bolted to the floor I think it will be exactly what I wanted in terms of security. The locking mechanism is very forceful when you use the RFID and feels like it is built well.I also like the gun racks that hold both pistols and long guns. The light colored interior is outstanding, really makes it easy to see inside without a flashlight. I am going to buy one of the motion activated cordless LED lights for power outages though.

This is a replacement from Amazon for a defective product. The request for replacement was promptly acknowledged and accomplished. This one is fine, no problems at all. I had it unpacked, moved into position, hooked up, programmed, and working in about 45 minutes.It is my opinion that the first one, although very professionally packed, had likely been used and screwed up by someone. Not only was the battery box hanging loose inside, there were three wires disconnected and another wire, unrelated to those three, that was cut partially through its insulation. But, the greatest indicator was that there were four batteries installed.This replacement was properly wired, all plugged in, and THERE WERE NO BATTERIES INSTALLED. The directions clearly state that there are no batteries provided.We are very pleased with this unit and would encourage anyone looking for a safe storage unit for weapons that isn't humongous and extremely heavy to consider the Hornady Rapid Safe. Everything works!

This product is a nice compromise between a full size/weight "safe" (residential security container) and the flimsier gun storage cabinets sold by other manufacturers. With its RFID access method it's also virtually unmatched in its ability to allow a gun owner instant access to firearms in an emergency situation and in my experience the feature works well.You'll definitely want to anchor this to the floor if possible since, though relatively heavy, it is still movable and could probably be carried away by two people without too much trouble. However, the fact that it is lighter than a traditional gun safe makes it more a more flexible option for anyone that needs gun storage in a location that would be otherwise difficult to move a heavier safe to.Pros:- Solid construction, but still light enough to easily move to areas in which it would be difficult or structurally prohibitive to place a traditional (much heavier) gun safe.- Extremely fast access to the contents through the RFID feature.- Has both AC and battery power sources so there are no concerns with dead batteries or power outage potentially preventing instant access.- Rack system puts rifles side-by-side, making them easy to access and place back into the safe.Cons:- Not quite as sturdy a similarly priced traditional gun safe.- Operation of the unlock mechanism can be rather noisy, however, a trick I have found if I ever need to open it with more stealth is to hold the handle when I trigger the RFID so it doesn't unlatch with full force.- RFID bracelet design (tag is on the clasp, not the face where you would think) makes it a bit awkward to use. The other RFID tags provided do work well however and there are many creative ways they can be concealed.- The pistol racks seem best suited for full size pistols; I did not have any luck trying to use them for compacts.Bottom line: If desired placement makes a traditional, heavy gun safe prohibitive, this is a good option. If instant access to your firearms is a priority, this is a great option -- the RFID access is much more reliable than most fingerprint scanners and faster than keypads which can dramatically increase access time if the code is accidentally entered incorrectly in a stressful situation. If having your rifles organized side-by-side for easier access is a priority, again, this is a good option. If none of these things are a high priority, some people may find that a more traditional gun safe is a better option.Overall I'm happy with this purchase and look forward to future accessories which should expand the functionality of the interior, hopefully at a reasonable price.

It is light, like a gun locker. The rfid is the sweet part. Peg system is nice if you don't have construction abilities.

Got exactly what was advertised.

2 Days shy of two years old and the unlocking mechanism stopped working correctly months ago. Hornadys solution is for me to pack it up, lug in to my driveway and have it shipped back to be fixed. Unbelievable.

This gun safe is great. Very happy with this purchase, but if you have long guns, the shelf will likely be unusable. I wasn't happy with that.
