Q: Is there a special paint for stenciling?

In general, you can use acrylic stencil paint (which is formulated with a slightly thicker consistency than regular acrylic paints). There are also stencil cremes (another popular choice for stenciling, they are creamy, highly pigmented paints that provide excellent coverage and smooth application). I believe you referred to where to start stenciling a wall. When stenciling a wall, it's generally best to start in the uppermost corner of the wall and work your way down. This could be the top left or top right corner, depending on your preference. Secure the stencil in place at the chosen starting point using stencil adhesive or painter's tape. Make sure the stencil is aligned and straight. Work your way across the wall, stenciling one section at a time. Move the stencil to the adjacent area, aligning it with the previously stenciled portion to ensure a seamless and continuous design. By starting in the uppermost corner and working your way down, you can ensure that the stencil remains aligned and that any potential drips or excess paint will fall onto unpainted areas below. Remember to take your time, work carefully, and maintain a consistent pattern as you stencil the wall!

Q: I want to use this stencil with plaster or joint compound. Is the mylar thick enough to withstand smearing the plaster?

Hi Gigi! Unfortunately, our stencils are thin (about 8 mil), created especially to be used with paint and a flocked dense roller. The stencils used for plastering should have at least 12mil thickness. Best, Patrik
