Tenant said kitchen flood soaked my hardwood floor. I contacted contractor. He said replacement cant be installed until subfloor reading is less than 8%, and his first visit and check is not free (160$!). I first got this pinless reader it was over 50% for an area beneath 6-8 pieces. Heaters and dehumidifier blew for 1 day. Now it is down to 20% - the great thing is... this gadget is super sensitive to the change in RH when the dryer worked hard to remove the excess moist. And It’s very easy to use.

I purchased this and used a couple of times. I removed the batteries after I was done. I put the batteries back in after a couple of months and it will not turn on any more. I then removed those batteries and installed 3 new batteries. Still did not power on. I then tried a 3rd set of new batteries from a different company. Still will not power on. I looked online for trouble shooting. No information. I then tried to find the manufacturer online and no presence. The positive and negative terminals are not corroded and appear shiny and new.While the instructions were a little hard to understand, I was able to use and the product worked well when it powered on. Unfortunately for me, it was a single use item. Too expensive to be used for a short time.

Original post: The meter appears to function but it useless to me. The problem is the instructions--or lack of instructions. If you've used an inductive moisture meter before and can navigate the settings without help, this may work for you.UPDATE: I was pleasantly surprised to find that TerraKelvin, in response to my initial 1 Star review, refunded my purchase though I did not request one. They are also sending an improved instruction manual. This is very impressive. It is the first voluntary refund on an Amazon purchase I've received (and I've been making Amazon purchases since 2006, I believe). TerraKelvin has earned my trust and I will definitely do business with them again.

Accuracy is good for tone woods( Walnut, Maple, and rosewood, etc). It's also easy to use on drywall. No pins to make holes in the wall. This meter will put your suspicions to rest if you think you have damp walls.

I had to ask a pro how to use it. Beginners instructions would of gotten this product more stars

This meter looked good and has a decent display, but wasn’t usable since all readings are too low.It typically reads 4 – 10% for all wood, including wet, green wood.It says accuracy 1%,No, it’s actually 200- 700% low such as 2– 7x lower than what it should be.70% wet wood should not read 5%.I did the startup calibration in air ok and it shows it’s completed.Then selected the right wood type. It's not hard to figure out.But Wet green wood at 60- 70% moisture still shows 5- 10% on this meter.Much too low.Firewood I dried and covered for 6 months which is still quite heavy shows 5% moisture which is impossible. That wood is wet and heavy at least 35-40% moisture yet. Not 5%.It would never reach 5% in this climate..As s test I also tried some green live trees in the yard which would be 60-80% typically for oak and ash.But even green live trees show it's dry at 10%.2nd issue, the specs say it can read moisture 3/4” deep which isn’t true.It reads ZERO if you lift off the wood at all.At 1/8" away it will read zero.1/4 inch” = zero1/2” = zero.3/4” = zero.It requires direct contact to get a reading.I videoed that and could publish that if useful.I tried the correct tree species settings and can make it read a little higher if I put in the wrong species but it’s still too low on all settings so I returned it. Maybe this one was just a dud.
