The one to get.
The all metal clamp is solid and will hold up through many jobs. You do need to provide the center bar but that is cheap, easy and you can customize it for every tread project. I recommend this style with metal guides over the thick wooden ones as this will give you more accurate results.

Must have for accurate cutting of stair treads and risers.
This is a must have accessory for installing treads and risers for new flooring ( LVP, laminate, etc...) as it allows you to accurately measure the width inside the wall as well as adjust for the angle of the wall on each end. This ensures your material fits the wall exactly and without any gaps. The steel is thick and will not bend and the knobs lock the stretcher in tight. They provide a small gauge block so that you can accurately mill any length of stretcher you need to accommodate the width if stairs you are working on. There are holes on each end to allow pins if you need to set a repeatable measurement or align the jig a certain way. I did not use these for my install, but it is good that they are there if needed in the future. When stored the pieces are very compact and will not take much room at all. Highly recommend this accessory for anyone taking on a new flooring project.

THEY FIXED THE BOLTS !!
I just received this item and gave it a thorough inspection. Based on what I see, some of the reviews for this well priced and simple tool just amaze me. I am a fairly experienced woodworker, and I know a good hand tool when I see one:1. There are complaints about having to cut a stick from scrap wood, even though they are about to undergo the likely most challenging woodworking project they have ever undertaken. If you can't rough cut a stick, how are you going to do this tread and riser job?2. Some complain the stick wasn't included in the package. What exact length would that stick need to be for your specific stair? Ok, well maybe it should be a 4 ft. stick that would be long enough for most any stair width. Oops...no good, still got to cut it (and now I've paid extra shipping cost for this scrap wood stick that needs to be cut. I don't want to pay extra for a scrap wood stick.3. Poorly welded bolt breaks off. Ok, this is a valid concern. But wait, the mfr. must have heard you because they solved this problem completely. Each bolt now has a hex-shaped head that fits very tightly into a hex-shaped hole in the steel plate. These bolts are not coming out, and they are not twisting off. So any potential buyer can completely ignore all reviews that complain about bolts twisting off. So thanks to you folks that complained. They heard you.Hate to tell you, but you are still gonna have to cut that stick from scrap wood. Good luck on that.fwt

Our stairs look great!
These were extremely easy to use, and enabled us to cut the new stair treads exactly to fit. Some of the angles were under 1% and I never could have duplicated them without the template. My only possible criticism is that the metal plates are deeper than most stair treads. As a result, some of the stair cuts showed more angle than actual (due to warped moulding) and had to be dialed in with several cuts. Overall, this was a minor issue. The tool itself worked great!
