Great tool, great price
I am very impressed with this rotary tool! Great price, works fantastic, I use it to sharpen my chainsaws all the time, have also used it for a few other projects and my daughter used it to make me a coat rack out of a pine slab. Works great ,no issues very happy with it.

An excellent value of surprising quality and versatility.
I finally burned out my Dremel tool after close to 50 years of use. I couldn't justify spending a lot for a new Dremel, so based on the reviews of the Phalanx unit, I decided to purchase it. I immediately put the tool to some pretty hard use fabricating a couple of steel brackets for my motorcycle. The Phalanx came through with flying colors. I used it the cut-off wheel for cutting steel, grinding, and polishing. It is surprisingly powerful (and as a result a bit heavier than expecting although not a problem), has a wide variety of attachments, and is good quality. One of the things I found particularly useful for the work I was doing is the flexible cable attachment which allows you to use the tool like a dentist's drill without the need to hold the power unit - just place it on the bench, attach the flexible cable, and attach the grinder, engraver, cut-off wheel to the end of the cable and operate like a dentist's drill. It was tremendously useful. One suggestion, though - if you're going to use the flexible cable, I suggest lubricating the inner cable periodically with some WD40 or other oil. Dremel recommends doing this with their flex cable (which incidentally costs more than the entire Phalanx grinder kit). I am very pleased with my purchase and pleasantly surprised by the quality and performance.

Great starter kit for D.I.Y or Tinkering
Im gonna give it 4 stars because its a great starter/D.I.Y gift I personally bought the kit for some bullet lighters im making :) it worked but I wouldn’t recommend trying to cut hard metals works great in brass/copper but steel has a hard time. I’ve read reviews about the tool getting really hot and to be honest I used it for around 5-10 minutes cutting a hard peice of steel and it was barely warm :) I recommend buying some better metal working/cutting tips but besides that this is a great starter kit

Excellent Value
I've been a user of rotary tools for a very long time. This time around I just wanted something that works well that isn't expensive and this fit the bill. I typically need a tool like this to cut or grind metal like tubes, wires or rusty, stuck hardware. It works really well and having multiple speed options is convenient. I didn't find any issue putting on different bits or had any issues tightening them. I also didn't have any issues putting it all back in the storage container like some have found. I haven't used the extended shaft. They do get hot if used for a longer period of time . I try not to use it if I don't have to and if I do, I try to keep very little bend in the shaft to keep it from overheating, just a tip. Overall, I think this kit provides a lot of value. We'll see how long it lasts but so far it's already paid for itself.

Is probably a great tool for someone with more experience
I bought this as I was starting a jewelry/metal working class and wanted to practice at home. It seemed like a great bargain with pretty decent reviews. Unfortunately, for me, this ended up not working for what I wanted. I do think that if you have more experience using these kinds of tools this might be a great deal for you.As I learned more, I found I prefer something that allows me to control the speed from zero up. This starts at a fast speed, is large for my hand (I have tiny hands though) and gets hot to quickly for my liking. Because of the speed and size, I struggled with detail work when trying to polish my smaller metal project. The bits are all different sizes, the Dremel comes with assorted adjustments so you can use the different bits but switching them out isn’t “easy”. You need to remove the bit, use a small tool to unscrew the top, remove the piece that secures the adjustment, remove the adjustment piece then replace it with the smaller or larger piece and resemble back together. I added a picture of it with everything removed and the tool needed to help someone understand what I mean. Not the end of the world but time consuming. The rubber bit I got for the sanding drums seems just a little bit too small. I can put a sanding drum on it but when I try to use this on anything, the bit spins and the drum doesn’t. When trying to use the other sanding bit with the sanding wheels, I was getting frustrated the wheel would tear over and over again even on the lowest speed. Most of the time the grit would be fine, but the middle part would tear and become useless. Again, it’s a pain to switch out the sanding wheels because you have to use that same small tool to unscrew the tiny little screw, then try to replace the wheel. If it lasted longer, I don’t think it would have been so frustrating.I also want to mention that at one point, I tried to put in the wrong size bit into the wrong adjustment and the piece broke easier than I expected. I acknowledge that I should have notice the bit wasn’t fitting, but I didn’t think I used excessive force.I do want to reiterate that if you use tools like this often, know what to expect and have a solid idea of how you want to use it, it could be a great tool for you. It just wasn’t a great fit for me personally.
