Excellent Resource for Beginner Start-Up Investors
"How to Invest in Startups" is a well written, comprehensive guide for those interested in learning about the why's and how's of investing in start-up companies. The author provides a thorough exploration of the world of start-up investing that is not just for the super-rich, but equally valuable to someone with just a few thousand dollars to spare.I particularly enjoyed the candid discussion on both the associated upsides and risks with this kind of investment and guidance on how to approach it with care.Highly recommended as a starting point for anyone considering alternatives to traditional investments.

How to Invest in Startups
A concise and informative guide for beginners in angel investing. It simplifies complex ideas, making startup investments accessible. A bit more detail in some areas would be helpful, but overall, a great starting point.

The first half of this book was pretty boring and standard. But then the last few chapters, especially the investment thesis one was stellar. Worth it just for the final chapters.

Walks you through all key concepts in a simple, easy-to-understand way
Easy to follow chapters and sections. Good for readers who are new to the subject. I've worked at several private equity backed companies so some of the concepts were familiar, but startup, pre-seed money, and VCs typically come in earlier than PE.I liked the due diligence checklist for evaluating companies.I appreciated the transparency around the high risk associated with angel investing. The book also covers where you need to be personally financially before it makes sense to consider angel investing.Overall, great book. Highly recommended!

Nice concept
I liked the concept of trying to equip readers with the knowledge and tools to begin investing in startups with as little as $100. I'm not sure it succeeds in this. I do like that the book includes insights from a range of investors, such as Kendrick Nguyen, CEO of Republic, and Meagan Loyst, Founder of Gen Z VCs, among others.

Surprising and comprehensive - a worthwhile read!
Books are so wonderful because they convey knowledge, demystifying something which may have been only vague in one’s mind. Learning about becoming an angel investor was one of the many such niggling back-of-the-mind desires for me.There are many books on the topic, so I am still not clear what made me reach for this one. Perhaps it is because the author interviewed 300 CEOs and dozens of investors for writing the book.I don’t know what I was expecting, but it was a pleasant revelation. There is the inspirational info, like Peter Thiel’s $1B in value that started with a $500,000 investment in Facebook after 8 years. As well as why it matters: “Startups create the most net new jobs! New business formation is how ideas come to life and innovation thrives. Without the proper financial investment, many of these businesses will fail and never come to fruition. As an active member of society, I believe we have a fiduciary duty to be informed on all the various ways we can support the small businesses that matter to us. We have more control over the future we live in than we might think.”As you can see quite energizing. The author sets no false premise about the risk, making it clear that many small companies will fizzle out and shut down within five years. But how many businesses of the future have yet to be created. How exciting it would be to be a part of helping that happen. Her gives information for identifying a worthy risk. “Clearly articulated belief about the target market. Strategic focus of why the category matters. Specific dollar allocation, frequency, and startup stage.”But what is surprising is how much of this depends on self-awareness, to be able to ask the right questions. “Without this internal belief system and introspective mindset, you will never be able to nail down a core investment thesis that you can follow.” To have conviction as an investor, you must believe in yourself first, and your ability to identify trends, evaluate entrepreneurs, and develop conviction around ideas. He quotes Elon Musk, who when he was asked about his mission in life was, responded: “When I was a kid, I was wondering what’s the meaning of life, why are we here, what’s it all about, and I came to the conclusion that what really matters is trying to understand the right questions to ask. The more that we can increase the scope and scale of human consciousness, the better we are able to ask these questions.”And to be able to ask the right questions, you have to know yourself first. Who knew… (Well, I do, now thanks to this book:)
