Completely Plug & Play, great toolbox add!
I switched computer components around and oops, the ports on the setup I want in the guest room aren't compatible with my cable collection. This cable required ZERO configuration, I just connected it and it worked. This cable adapter will greatly extend the usefulness of my VGA displays.

Adjust refresh rate to detect monitor if necessary
Disclaimer: I received this product for no charge through the Vine program, but I pay income tax on the retail value of the item. This Converter cord is perfect for using an older VGA only monitor with a newer video card that has only HDMI outputs. I tried it with several monitors and Nvidia and Intel graphics adapters and it worked flawlessly with all combinations. The converter is even detected as an HDCP compliant device when hooked up to an old VGA monitor (which should not be HDCP compliant). There is no audio connection on the converter, you will need to output audio some other way.One thing that you should be aware of is that when using this adapter, the video card and driver may not initially detect all the VGA monitor's parameters and won't output a signal with its true native resolution. It may output the native desktop resolution using an interpolated 1080p signal for that resolution. The monitor will display the correct sized desktop, but the display will not be as bright and sharp as when using the correct native signal resolution. I found this with both the Nvidia and the Intel adapters. The way to fix this is to go to Windows Display Settings and choose a different refresh rate at the native resolution. Once that has been done, the driver detects the monitor, and the native signal resolution becomes available. I didn't try this with an AMD card, but I would assume it would work the same. All in all, this is an easy and inexpensive way to use perfectly good older VGA monitors with newer video cards.

Almost perfect
This is mentioned on the product page but it bears repeating: this converts an HDMI output signal from your device (PC, game console, etc) to a VGA input signal on your display. It will not work the other way around and will not transmit sound (as VGA can't handle that), so make sure that's what you need before you buy.The cable is just shy of 6 feet long (I know the product page says it's "180 mm" but that's just over 7 inches, so I think they meant 180 cm), which will be enough for most standard applications of the cable without the need for lots of cable management. The cable works as advertised. I used it to hook up a brand new mini PC to an old VGA monitor I had lying around and encountered no issues. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is that the small knobs used to tighten the VGA connection could stand to be a big tougher. They have a slot for a flat-head screwdriver, but using a screwdriver causes them to deform and slightly tear. I did not have this issue and-tightening the other side.

Works just like it says hooking HDMI to VGA
This HDMI to VGA cable from Sorthol works. What else is there to say? How about why I need one, and how if I have it working you could too.I have bought small used business PCs and often want to capture the video output. That is easy enough, they have Display Port out, so I use a DP to HDMI adapter, run that to a HDMI capture box, and then out to a combo TV/monitor. The issue is I can’t get the HDMI input on the monitor to look as good as running VGA to it. So now I’m running this cable from the HDMI pass-through port on the capture device, and the VGA end on the monitor. It works great with no issues noted. This one is nice because there is no additional connections for power. I recommend this anyone needing to hook up a HDMI output to a VGA display device, as long as you don’t use the HDMI for your audio out.

Perfect fit and length.
I needed an HDMI to VGA cable because I bought a new desktop pc and wanted to continue using my old computer monitor. The cable is good quality, easy to set up, and easy to use. It is the correct length for my setup. My pc is on the floor, and the cable is easily connected to my monitor. The picture quality is good, and it works as expected.

Almost perfect, feels cheap, but it does work, as intended
This HDMI to VGA cable works as intended as it should. Keep in mind that HDMI ports / cables carry audio on a normal basis, so when you revert back to a vga monitor you have to connect separate speakers, or at least run a speaker cable from the device to the monitor speakers. So why minus one star? Well the VGA plug is not solid like back in the old days, but instead a flimsy brittle feeling plastic that one finds at gas stations when purchasing a USB cigarette lighter charger. I'm hoping it doesn't fall apart in the future as for in my case I am using a mini PC that I transport and use in two different places and with the vga plug feeling flimsy I don't have much confidence. So why minus the 2nd star? Well, there are better cables available right here on Amazon that go for less and that do have a solid built VGA plug. In fact there are other cables available that even have audio out after the HDMI to connect the audio directly to your computer monitor with no fuss. Will update this review when the cable fails.

did what I needed of it.
This is a cable and it did what I needed it to do. I have a vga monitor and an hDMI graphics card. This let me run the output from the card to the monitor so I could still use the monitor.
