Just what I needed
Excellent tool. I thought it would be a little light for the price but it worked great. I needed to install some pavers and level out the sand first. No problem. I give it 5 Stars.

This will do the Job
I've been needing a tamper tool for a small gravel pathway I'm putting in. I saw this and decided to give it a shot. It will definitely get the job done, but it's not perfect. The metal used for the handle does seem a little bit thin to me, but I think it will hold up as long as nothing heavy is dropped on it. I'm not sure how I feel about the handle being segmented, but that was made clear in the listing and I understand the necessity of it for shipping purposes. I just know how these and other garden tools can take a beating and having a segmented handle just adds several points of possible failure to a simple tool. At any rate, the handle segments fit together snuggly and feel sturdy, so hopefully it won't be an issue. This tamper is on the light side. The listing put it at 7.62 lbs, but I'm fairly sure that's the shipping weight. It's probably roughly 7.5 lbs. With a tool like this, the weight is important. The heavier it is, the less effort it takes from you to compact the earth below you. The lighter it is, the more the tool passes the load on to you. 7.5 lbs is probably a bit too light weight for big jobs, but for something small like a short pathway, it should be fine. When I picked this up, the listing price was $34 which I thought was a good price. Certainly less than any I'd seen at my local big box stores, but then I got curious. I decided to check out the website for the big orange home improvement store and see what they had on offer. I looked at 5 different tampers. Prices ranged from $40 to $80 and the weights ranged from 10 lbs to 17.5 lbs.I found it interesting that this tamper was 25% lighter than the lightest one the orange store had on offer. So I decided to do some math and calculate price per pound. It might seem strange to calculate price per pound for a tool, but when it comes to a tamper, you're paying for the weight of the steel plate so it makes sense. The price per pound for the 5 tampers from the orange store came to $4.00, $3.85, $4.34, $4.52 and $5.97. The price per pound for this tamper (using 7.5 lbs and $34.99) comes to $4.66/lb. After seeing this, I no longer felt like this was a great buy. It's more expensive than 4 out of 5 from my local store and comes with a segmented handle when the ones at my local store come with unsegmented steel or fiberglass handles.Like I said, this tamper will be fine for smaller jobs, but if I were doing a larger job I'd probably go pick up a heavier one locally.I was torn between rating this 3 or 4 stars, but realized that the few concerns I have with it (the weight and the handle) are clearly and accurately presented in the product description. The seller makes what you're getting crystal clear, so it wouldn't be a fair review if I were to deduct a star for information I had prior to ordering. So 4 stars it is. It's not a bad tool, but it's not the best value either.

Goos item
Appears to be a good product and it should work well.

A little wobbly but does the job
I bought this for a one-time job. I never needed a tamper before and am likely to never need it again. It worked perfectly fine for the smallish job (a couple hundred square feet) that I used it for. I had to retighten it a bunch of times, but considering the price and that's its for casual use (rather than professional) it was perfectly fine. Two stars off for requiring tightening and being a little on the wobbly side. But perfectly adequate, especially for the price.

Good buy
It’s easy to put together and has a heft to it. Flattens dirt well. Happy with my purchase.

Broke after 15 minutes of use
This seemed like it would be a good investment, but the shaft is super thin. It attaches to the base using two bolts, so it seems like it wouldn't fall out. And it doesn't. But after using it for 15 minutes, the shaft actually broke at the base. The tiny bends that occur with each use weakens the shaft and eventually snaps at the top of the base. This was a total dud and a good example of getting what you pay for. Definitely not worth it.

Doesn’t hold up.
First of all the holes didn’t line up. I had to bolt one hole and drill out the other. But that’s not even the issue. The handle is made of thin metal that broke after about 15 mins of use. My pic shows the part that broke off. Luckily I was able to work the broken piece out and finagle the handle back into the head. This was not without some level of effort. I gave it 2 stars because of my fix that’s given me a little more use out of it. My advice is to just spend the extra cash if you can and get a quality one. That’s what I get for trying to save a little money.
