Asimov Laughs Again: More Than 700 Jokes, Limericks, and Anecdotes

Interesting and funny

I purchased this book and another for my brother as he is a big Asimov fan. He said this book falls flat and it's not funny. Le likes his other works better.

I can't call it meretricious, but I doubt that the book would have been published had someone else written it. As promised early on, contents were random and as promised on the cover, they are an assortment including limericks that got old pretty fast and anecdotes humorous neither in fact nor intent. One of the latter was inadvertently amusing because a teacher indicated as male in one paragraph was female in another. Too many were unflattering stories about his first wife, her family and others. For that reason, the book might have been called, "Azimov Laughs Last."A few jokes and humorous anecdotes are repeats from his "Treasury of Humor." Many new ones are very funny -- maybe because of contrast with those that weren't. As he opines there and in his Treasury, humor comes from the unexpected. For that reason, I don't regret buying the book, but it is far from his best.

i purchased and read Asimov Laughs Again as part of my personal reading list of reading nothing this summer but Asimov. My thoughts are: Was there anything Issac Asimov couldn't succeed at writing? This was his 2nd (& last) joke book. Not only are the jokes & limericks really funny, but the teacher in him decided to give tips on how to tell his jokes and how to judge & relate to an audience. Asimov's use of the English language is exemplary as usual. i know that he died shortly after writing this book. So, yes, i did feel teary-eyed thru his quips & quibbles quaint.

This is the great science-fiction writer's second joke-book and it completes the first one, which is a little more organized into types of jokes, his publisher's idea. Even beyond that, some of the jokes are very personal and Yiddish, almost all of this magician's art is explained, and you will laugh at least 350 times. The other times you will be amazed at the breadth of his learning! .Most jokebooks I own I laugh 1 every 10 times. Not much to add to your joke repertoire unless you are Jewish, but fantastic writing nonetheless. The real tragedy is that he didnt live another 80 years and write another 400 odd books.

Mr Asimov was obviously a fine writer, what this book shows is that he needed editors.btw: the percentage of "off-color" jokes is high, it seems to be 30-40%.

I bought this book on a whim for an Asimov fan. For all I knew he had every Asimov book he wanted; however, I took a chance.All things considered, I bought Asimov's favorite book, and the last book he knew was printed, this one.I admit I read through this book to see what it was about. I shared some jokes with my daughter and she laughed (whoa).My friend was impressed that I had listened to him when he talked about his interest in Asimov and he had neither book. Yea.So, if you're an Asimov fan, or if you could use a laugh, go ahead, live a little.

The anecdotes and limericks were more funny than the jokes. You can definitely tell the jokes were not very modern in style. It was fun imagining Arthur C Clarke and Asimov sending insults to each other :-)

Riot!

I had high hopes but they crashed and burned! The work, as far as I'm concernedhas become over worked ... which is sadly ... very sad!!! Trouble was ... it transpired, remainder of order worked out about the same. Moral: must apply a rather more conservative (note the small "c") attitude and most likely still, get it wrong! The human condition, really is a pain ... from time to time. But it is still, so gratifying to realise, that my own imperfection is my all time favourite!
