Block by Block
This is an excellent book for those who want to quilt but don't have a long arm quilting machine. As you make each square in a quilt, you quilt it, while it is still small. All squares in the book meaxure 12 x 12 when finished. It's a very easy size to handle on any regular sewing machine. Once you finish the squares you sew then into strips and then sew the strips together resulting in a full sized quilt ready for adding binding around the edges. The book includes a bunch of different squares with step by step instructions on how to commplete them. This section takes up most of the book. The book also offers a handy chart do determine how much fabric and how many squares you will need for quilts from lap size to king size. It also offers many helpful tips to make quilting easier and a list of supplies and tools. Some are necessary and some are just handy to have. The book tells which are neccessary. The drawings and written instructions are very detailed and easy to understand...even for this beginning quilter. It also has several pages of pictures of finished quilts using the squares in the book. Most of the pictures include several different types of squares in each quilt so it provides you with a picture of each square described in the book. An excellent book that I would highly recommend for beginners as well as advance traditional quilters. Very well written, easy to understand, step by step with drawings included for each step.

good review of quilting techniques
I was thrilled when I found this book available from an Amazon seller. I have been search for this title for some time. It is a good review of quilting techniques. However, I purchased it to augment my quilt as you go skills and it really did not do that. It is out of print and published in 95 so some of what the book describes is understandably outdated.

Clear, Concise, Complete
I just received "Block by Block" by Beth Donaldson and am excited to tell my fellow beginning quilters that this book has everything you will need to machine quilt in small increments. Her instructions for 12" finished blocks are specific and clear giving you the option to make quilts from table runner size to king size. There are 24 drawn patterns and also pictures of completed quilts. She has written instructions on choosing fabric, tools needed, cutting, sewing, sashing, assembling, quilting and binding. Everything so understandably written and illustrated. I especially like the 8 different sashing options. In under 100 pages, she has included other important techniques as well as how to quilt block by block.

Like the book
Our quilt guild had the author come to our meeting. She does have some excellent ideas for ease in putting together a scrappy quilt.

Wasn't meant to be!
I've ordered this book twice now. It shows availability. It tells me my book has been dispatched and then a week later it tells me its out of stock. I did get refunds each time but why let the consumer go thru the whole ordering process when its not really available. Very disheartening!
