Simple to use and really sharpens knives. Easy to hold.

I decided to buy this Accusharp hand held sharpener after ruining too many knives on my old grinding wheel. There are quite a few hand held, compact knife sharperners on Amazon to choose from. However now that I have had this Accusharp for a while, I feel I have made an excellent choice.The Accusharp is just about as simple as they come by design, and to use. The tough carbide sharpening stone does an excellent job with minimal pressure in sharpening any blade with just 3 or 4 light strokes. As soon as I got it I used it not only on all my kitchen knives, but on my various hunting knives as well. I also own a collection of bowie knives ranging from 9 to 16 inches in length. It did an excellent job on all the blades, regardless of the length, style, and width. (The heavier blades requiring just a little more pressure). The package directions direct one to place the knifes sharp side up on a counter and to drag the sharpener over the blade. Though I fully realize that their intention was to maximize safety on behalf of the consumer, I found it a little easier to use by holding the knife in one hand sharp side up, and then drawing the sharpener over the blade in that manner. But thats just me, you may not feel the same way. This position however does not apply to any really heavy, long bladed knives. It is best in the case of a very large knife, (and of course safer), to follow the package directions and lay it on a counter as directed. Although if you use the sharpener correctly it is very hard to actually scrape your knuckles against the blade, a nylon guard between you and the knife prevents that in any event. The very shape of the sharpener puts your knuckles pointing away from the blade. The Accusharp is comfortable, convenient, very easy to use, and most importantly, gets every knife blade I used it on extremely sharp. I am most satisfied with it.In conclusion, though some other reviewers here spoke negatively of this unit not providing as fine an edge as old fashioned honing with oil and stone would, personally I do not feel that is the point, or the promise of this sharpener. Any blade can be made into a finer shaving worthy edge with a whetstone system. That is if we all had an ample amount of time to spare and nothing else better to do. And I also have not experienced any of my knives staying any less sharp and needing more sharpening with the Accusharp as some other reviewers have made a note of. Personally I feel an edge is an edge and the length of time it stays that way has a lot more to do with the knives quality, rather than the tool or system used to get it that way. One last observation, the Accusharp sharpening stone is reversible. Meaning that after hundreds of uses when the original side starts to wear down and taking more time to do its thing, you can open the handle and reverse the stone, thus essentially starting off with a brand new sharpener all over again. I think this sharpener is excellent and does a very fine job. Its reasonably priced, and, (at the time of this writing), can be combined with something else for free shipping here on Amazon. I think its all the sharpener most of us will ever need and highly recommend it...

I absolutely love this sharpener! I have a wet stone and an electric sharpener, but I wanted something that was quick and easy. Nothing like starting to cut a tomato and realizing your knife is dull. I just grab it out of the drawer, give my knife a couple swipes, and then I'm back slicing through that tomato like it was butter. It's super lightweight, easy to handle, and works amazingly well... not to mention it's a fantastic price. I plan on buying another for my husband to keep in his shop before he steals this one from me. If you just want an easy-to-use and effective sharpener, I highly recommend this one!

This is a fantastic sharpener albeit a bit dangerous if you don’t follow the instructions on how to sharpen it.The knife should be upside down with blade facing up as you drag this over making passes sharpening it as you go.It’s very portable and small yet VERY effective.Super easy to upkeep and I use it daily.After 60 days of daily to heavy use it’s still going just as strong as day one!

I have had this santoku knife for at least a decade. I got it from Walmart and only spent $2.00 for it. It's the only knife I owned. Its my "Hattori Hanzo." I was going to buy another one because the blade has really dull which is extremely dangerous when cutting. Looked and realized that this type of knife is really expensive for a nice one. Then it dawned on me...I can sharpen it! Purchased this one because all the reviews where positive. Took me 30 seconds to sharpen it. Sliced some lemons for some tea and OMG ITS SOOOO SHARP!!!! LIKE DAY ONE BRAND NEW SHARP! I'm so happy I get to keep my Hattori Hanzo :)!!! This little compact knife sharpener is legit and super easy to use. Get it if you own a knife that just needs a little sharpening!

A sharp knife was never so easy to obtain! Before I cut on the cutting board, I sharpen my knife with this very easy to use knife sharpener. A few quick passes over the blade with this product and I'm off to the races. It works very well and I'm very pleased with my purchase.

This little device is a great price and works really well. Small enough to fit in a little compartment in the utensil drawer so it is handy when I need it. Easy to hold and sharpen even with bad arthritis. Didn't realize how dull my knives were until I used this item. I even use it on serrated knives and it really improves my slicing and prep work.

Turn knife upside down. Hold firmly. Run sharpener over length of blade a few times. That's it. And it really does a great job of actually sharpening the old blade. What else could you ask for? The sharpener itself feels well-made and not flimsy. Having one of these is a no-brainer.
