I bought this book & another from Amazon to educated myself on Cameos. Very informative. Easy to ready. I now feel I can go out & purchase a cameo & know if I am buying shell, glass, plastic, etc.

This is a great resource with quality pictures. Price guides for these items are hard to find especially at this price.

Good book if you are looking for example photos. Don't expect "collector" knowledge that lets you ID or evaluate age, vale, etc. I was disappointed compared to other "guide" type references for things I collect.

I was hoping for a history of cameos and their making. I wanted to know what materials and methods were used. This is just a few words and a lot of pictures. I have no idea if the prices are stable enough to use the book once it is out of date.Pretty pictures but not much information.

Great book and great price with fast shipping.

This isn't as comprehensive as some other books on cameos but it has short, helpful explantions that augment other books I have on the subject.

Good reference with wonderful pictorial examples.

Very nice examples of different versions of cameos. The price guides are helpful if you are looking for an older cameo you can afford. I did not think it was in-depth enough for purposes of looking at differences in the various styles. Not enough about the substances such as carnelian, shell or other materials from which the cameos are carved.

Okay but don't count on this book to learn much about cameos. And I am being generous with my 4 Stars!!! Where is the history of cameos, all the info to help collectors know prices and where to buy them? Mostly, this tells us the types of cameos there has been throughout the history (and what we still have nowadays) and it shows us examples (pictures). That's about it. Don't expect more than that. I found that many of the examples of cameos in this book are so small and hard to see that I really needed my magnifier to see them properly.

I'm doing a project and wanted to know more about cameos. This was really interesting and useful for my purpose.

Disappointed, as this is not a revised edition, but a companion book, that lists estimated prices for the American market...I still need to buy the first edition to have all the historical information that I was interested in. You do not find this out until you are at least 2 chapters in and it finally informs you of this within the text....very annoying!!!!
