A Challenge!
I wanted my pupils to get more from a book than just reading it.This book is a great challenge.I would not let them carry on reading until they had solved the problem.A fun book

It's creepy! (SPOILER REVIEW)
If you like creepy books and like books with 19 chapters, this is the book for you. The dad dropped the kid off in the woods and he filed a police report for his missing son even though he dropped him of in the woods. There were people who were murders and had a house in the woods, and asked people that were lost in the woods to come in. And when the people that they put in their house were sleeping they would kill them.(From my 4th grade reader.)

Exciting and well written
Matt Bright, living in a children's home while his father recovers from Matt's mother's death, runs away, feeling abandoned. He meets 'Sam,' a poor little rich girl with a wild story so full of danger--and holes--that level-headed Matt can't wait to escape. But she needs him, and he has nowhere to go. He becomes part of a mystery the two must solve to save their own lives and the lives of others.Joy Wodhams has written a kid's page-turner with interesting, compelling characters from different worlds who have more in common than they know. The writing is strong and the emotions real as they dodge the evil that separates them from their real homes.Caveat: the threat of violence at the book's end may make Craven Manor inappropriate for children below the fifth or even sixth grade.

Excellent read for parents and 10 yr old
We read this book as a family. We all loved it! It's the first book we've read in our newly-created family book club and it's going to be tough to beat! Highly recommend!

Very entertaining and well paced
I am an adult , and didn't know this was written for youngsters! I still enjoyed it very much. It was nice to read a haunted house type of story with lots of suspense and no distressing gore or sadism, like so many spooky tales nowadays.

Nice Book
I picked this book out because, I like to read mysteries. I liked the book but I thought the fake Mr. and Mrs. Cooper were just weird. I also thought the drug didn't seem very believable since it was made out of some sort of plant. I LOVE the Tramp I thought he was an amazing small part of the book but I also think he could have been a more main character in the story. It was a nice book but I thought there could some changes. -Gretel

Just amazing!
This book got me so hooked, at first I thought that it's was pretty boring to be honest. But man was I wrong. This book was so incredible, the fact that I finished the entire book in one night just proves how addicting the plot was. The plot just gives you chills as soon as things start getting tense. As I was reading I started feeling a personal connection to Matt, I felt like I was Matt and that I was in the story.

Enjoyable & Creepy
Craven Manor is a great book overall. Like most of Joy’s books it has its nice, calm moments, and parts of it where you want to cry as it has a back story as to why it was written.I’ve really enjoyed all of Joy’s books that I have read, and this one is particularly good because the characters’ emotions are portrayed in a way that make you want to feel them as well.I highly recommended this book as well as others she has written, like Cabbage Boy, because of the sense they give to the reader. Joy is a brilliant author who portrays emotions through characters and back story.Lucien McFadden, 12 years.

Loved it!
As someone who is writing a book for children I read this to get to know what books are out there. I became immersed in a reading experience that took me back to the excitement of reading an adventure book as a child. Mystery, excitement, goodies and baddies, all at a pace that leaves no room for dull bits. Highly recommended!
