these are one of the better value options available from a warmth perspective - but ...
I do a fair amount of cold weather camping/hiking and I've tried a dozen so called "sub zero" style socks from Amazon. Most aren't worth your time (or money) if you're in need of a serious solution. For a very short time, these are one of the better value options available from a warmth perspective - but their durability is extremely poor. After just the first couple washes you'll notice a reduction in their insulation, and see clumps of the material coming loose from the inside. After ten or so washes these are near worthless and reduced to the warmth of a basic budget sock, if you don't already have holes in the toe and heel (which all four pairs of mine do). As long as they are new, they will do okay in snow conditions for a trip or two provided that you have good boots of course. Plus they fit well, are quite comfortable, and fairly inexpensive. However, these definitely aren't the socks you want if you're serious about keeping your feet warm. What you want is the "Darn Tough Vermont Merino Wool Mountaineering" brand socks but their not cheap - you'll pay five times as much. But they are worth it, and probably last over ten times as long, fit better and are much warmer.

Terramar Men's Sub Zero Crew Socks
My home office space doesn't have much in the line of heat and it sits over the garage. I also spend a good deal of time outside and on my feet. These socks have kept my feet pleasantly warm in the month I've had them. I wear a size 12 shoe so I bought the XL size. They fit well and keep their shape -- that's something, say, a wool-rag sock doesn't do well. The long-term question is longevity. I don't wear shoes once inside the house so there's a lot of padding around in my stocking feet. Mostly wood floors in the house -- no carpeting outside the bedrooms. I also weigh close to 200 pounds so that padding around tends to wear holes in the heels of most any sock. I look forward to seeing if these last a full winter. Or two. Or three. Time will tell. That being said, I really like these socks and recommend them.

Warm and comfortable winter socks to wear with boots.
I'm ordering more! I love these socks. I travel to Greenland (yes, the ice is melting) as one of my projects is based out of the Thule Air Base (that's 750 miles inside the arctic circle) and I wear these all the time fall/winter/spring (remember, the ice is melting and summer months tend to be above freezing). I also wear these in Boston when the temps are below freezing (like now). They are super comfortable, thick and warm! I love to wear them just hanging around the house in the winter since we keep the thermostat low (cheap bugger that I am). They are a little too thick to wear with my casual shoes, or I would. Typically, I wear them with my hiking boots or cold weather boots.

Deceptively warm.
subzero, not. these socks are not very thick at all. UPDATE: Having worn these all winter I have to change my review from 2 to 5 stars. They are warmer then I thought they would be for not being that thick. And they show very little wear, which is unusual, for me anyway. I just bought more. These are quality winter spring and fall socks. They breathe well also. UPDATE: The 2 pair I just received are not the same as the the first 2 pair I have been wearing. They are supposed to be the same. They are just as good, though, just slightly smaller, not as long.

Like wearing a cloud
I am extremely particular about socks. There are few other items that are as important or can ruin your day quicker than a busted pair. When I opened the package I couldn't believe how they felt, almost too soft if that makes sense (I've tried just about every premium brand as well.) They're that thick but they're not itchy.Super warm on their own, combine them with a silk liner to experience a new level of comfort and warmth.Could not recommend more. Terramar has a new customer for life if all of their products are made to this level of excellence.

as the saying goes "they don't make them like they used to"
Well, as the saying goes "they don't make them like they used to"...I bought a pair of these last year before Winter set in, and they were amazing- I quickly bought 2 more pair to get me through. I wore them every day. I wore a hole through the toe of one, the dog ate one...but they held up well considering that I did wear them every day...I just bought four more pair for this Winter. I noticed that they were a little taller than the last ones I ordered, and felt a little different, but didn't think much of it. I washed them when I got them, and I have worn each pair once already. After only two washes, they are crap- no elasticity in them whatsoever. The material even feels different now, less dense. The orange logo peeled off, too. Same washing machine, same detergent, same cycle, everything.Needless to say, I will not be buying anymore of these in the future.

Bad quality control on what should be nice product. I think they may be seconds
Should be a nice product but quality contol is bad. The top of on pair has elastic picked and the other has a hole around the top befor they were even taken out of package. The size chart was not the same on the ad as on the package. I wear size 11.5 boots and usually XL socks but these are XL12.5-15. If ad was correct I would have ordered a size large. It is a shame they are nice, warm looking sox if these werent seconds like I suspect. I am going to try to return and try again

Great socks, worth the $ to us
My hubby loves these socks! His feet are 6E wide and always cold. He's wore them for a couple of months and they seem to hold up well so far. These are great socks and worth the money for us.
