A bit bulky, but a fine product
One previous reviewer indicated that this item was larger than it needed to be -- and therefore stuck out too far from the wall. Another wrote that it was not strong/robust enough to withstand and resist tampering. I can understand the first "hit," but not the second.I agree that the rounded/semicircular "cross-section" wasn't necessary: it would have been possible to cast this in a much flatter configuration, so that it could fully cover the thermostat while shoulders would not bump the guard as people passed it. I cannot see any way in which that would negatively affect its function, and I have seen guards from other manufacturers with such a low profile. However, once the lid is snapped into place and securely locked, it is hard to imagine how the unit might be circumvented or significantly damaged unless someone used a hammer, screw driver, or some other tool. Polycarbonate is a tough material, even at this thickness. Unless it were used in the gorilla house of the zoo, this would probably do its job well and last "forever."I would add two more positive comment regarding design features that elevated this item from a "4" evaluation to a "5:"1) The polycarbonate base that mounts against the wall has vents which allow air to pass but offer no "straight-line" access to the thermostat's controls. Even if you bent a paper clip, it would be extremely difficult or impossible to thread it through the vents and to change the heating/cooling settings.2) Because the wiring for my thermostat was NOT inside the wall, and was connected to the control unit using a steel wire-molding, I had to use a coping saw and a file to cut a three-sided opening in the guard's polycarbonate mounting base. This worked just fine -- the base is thick enough that the wire-molding was surrounded on three sides, and that the guard's cover still snapped in place just fine.

Not enough breathing holes for thermometer
Needs more holes for correct temp

Does the job, maybe too well !
This is a good product. It is larger than is appears in the images which, in my case, was a problem as it sticks out into the airspace over some steps. However, it is very durable, so it has survived the variety of impacts that three of us, two humans and a standard poodle, have delivered to it. I bought it to eliminate problems of people adjusting the settings by running into the thermostat, so it does the job.On the other hand, it doesn't appear to have a enough openings to allow air to circulate around the thermostat, so it lags behind the actual temperature changes in the room. That would be a problem in other circumstances, but our situation - making it through the winter - is not as demanding of subtle temperature changes normally detected by thermostats.

It is very big like the other reviews say so keep that in mind
Works well but the cover to backing that goes on the wall is bit of a hard fit, can be a little difficult to seat it perfectly. It is very big like the other reviews say so keep that in mind, bout the size of a typical avaya or cisco office desk phone, maybe a little bigger...But anything that helps prevent my idiotic roommate from turning the heat off in the middle of the frigid Utah winter or the A/C off in the summer, deserves a good review in my eyes. Keeps the fool away from the thermostat and keeps the bill down

Worked perfectly to childproof our light switch.
This thing is perfect. We have a light switch that controls 4 different things...that my 2-year-old likes to play with. This covered it perfectly. We put it upside down though. So he can't pull from the top and rip it open. The "top" doesn't have really anything holding it strongly together. But, it keeps him out now so it's perfect for our needs. Will be getting a smaller one for the kitchen/dining light switches as well. Since he still won't stop flipping those on and off.

Problem solved !
I own a restaurant that requires (3) three HVAC units to heat/cool the interior. The employees continued to attempt to adjust the temperature to their satisfaction. Having three thermostats, sometimes one would be on heat and two would be on cool. I purchased lock covers in the past and they found a way to poke a wire or some item through the vents holes and continued to change the setting. These covers are designed to resist tampering. They appeared to be oversized (very big) until i installed them. They are the correct size to cover the base plates of the thermostats.Includes two keys for each cover-same key fits all. They are made of polycarbonate, not fragile acrylic. All mounting hardware is included. A good value and shipping was fast. CJH

Got employees who can't stop messing with the dial?
If you're like me, you have been looking for a way to secure the thermostat in the office. With a crew of people who apparently are used to working on Venus, I had to step in. This little beauty was up in less than 5 minutes. Now the office is at a comfortable 70-72 degrees, and my heater is enjoying a much needed rest.
