Useful
This book is basically a regurgitation and watered-down version of "Mathematical Foundations of Elasticity", by Marsden and Hughes ( Mathematical Foundations of Elasticity ), just like so many other recently released texts/references including treatments of non-linear continuum mechanics (MFoE was released in 1983, and anticipated a great deal of published work hence). This title has neither the depth of treatment nor the rigorous precision of MFoE. Still it is useful since it does expand more on topics this title and MFoE share in common.Holzapfel has the distinct "flavor", in many places throughout his work in this book, of the writings/work of Juan C. Simo, one of the superlative workers in non-linear finite elements, who also worked in collaboration with T.J.R. Hughes (e.g., Computational Inelasticity (Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics) ), and is now deceased. This is a fresh presentation however and Holzapfel does an excellent job of conveying difficult concepts while maintaining rigor, which is no easy feat. The only place this work falls a little short on rigorous precision is in the treatment of linearization of the non-linear system(s) resulting from the various weak forms.I did find Holzapfel's treatment of the Lie derivative, just like many other recently published works on the same subject, a bit more revealing and intuitive, while maintaining the requisite rigor, than the alternative derivation/explanation in MFoE.

Five-star content, three-star printing
I bought this book for chapters 6 and 7 on hyperelasticity and the thermodynamics of solid continua, and professor Holzapfel does not disappoint. His explanations are careful and precise (for example he painstakingly notes when quantities like energy density are relative to the reference configuration of the object), and he synthesizes a great deal of advanced material on nonlinear elasticity in a form more accessible to non-mathematicians than Truesdell. This book is an invaluable reference for my work on computational nonlinear elastics. The only drawback is the quality of the printing. The text itself is perfectly legible, about equivalent to a good laser printer, but it's printed on rough paper that makes fine lines slightly wavy. The figures are all halftoned at low resolution, so they show very noticeable artifacts, though they are still legible. Inside the back cover, it says "Made in the USA, San Bernardino CA, 12 November 2016" (the day after I ordered it), so it must be a print-on-demand book. That would be fine for a novel, but not for a $70-plus-dollar reference book.

Great book.
Excellent book for basics of continuum mechanics with specific attention to material modeling.

Great Reference Book
Great as a reference book. Covers a lot of material and does it well with examples. It would be difficult to self teach from this book, though I believe that is because the material is very difficult, not because the book does not cover it.

Very good introduction to Continuum Mechanics
Very good introduction to Continuum Mechanics! Homework problems are insightful and chapters explain much of the content very clearly. I highly recommend for anyone interested in Mechanics of Materials in their graduate studies.

Great intro textbook and reference
I used this book 4 years ago as an introduction to continuum mech textbook, and I still constantly use it as a reference now. The presentation is clear and well-organized, and the physics is in general well-explained so that it's unlikely to be drowned in the math and forget the theme. I personally like it and will recommend it to any beginner of continuum mechanics.

Excellent...
An excellent book that should always be with you. Everything is explained very clearly. It is a reference book written in the field of Nonlinear Solid Mechanics.
