A great companion to the first two titles in the All Souls trilogy
I read this book alongside A Discovery of Witches and Shadow of Night, the first two books in Deborah Harkness's All Souls trilogy. I followed along, chapter by chapter, delving deeper into the world of All Souls that this reading guide provided. Pictures, historical facts, and additional detail provided a deeper understanding into the components that made up these books. Particularly useful during the historical 16th century parts, the guide shed light on many of the intricacies of the time with which I was not familiar, and for that reason, I found it very useful and enlightening.I was slightly disappointed however to find that the final book in the trilogy, The Book of Life was not included in this guide. I will definitely miss it's companionship while reading that final book.

Best series I've read in a very long time.
Deborah Harkness's All Souls trilogy is wonderfully written, incredibly researched and are spellbinding reads. I read the 1800 page trilogy in a couple of weeks. Could hardly put it down. I've just finished a follow up book, Time's Convert primarily based upon and telling the story on one of the tangential characters Marcus. I can't wait until Deborah reveals the next chapter in these characters lives. Very Very Highly Recommended.

Great visuals
As someone who loves real photos of places I read about, this book is an amazing companion! I read the books prior to seeing the first season of the TV show. Being able to see the action and locations was wonderful! This book is a great companion as it includes photos of places mentioned. I'm not sure I could *not* read a chapter just to stick with the calendar, but it's a cool idea. Well worth it for true fans!

Eh. Some interesting info. Stupid small pix.
Just re-read the trilogy (for about the ninth time)! Picked this up (in eBook) to see if I might like it. About 1/3 the way in. It's not even that great a trivia book! It's got some interesting snippets from Harkness, but REALLY scant info, short quotes from the trilogy, pix on my tablet are about 2" x3" or smaller. Too bad.{shrug} Not unhappy to have it. WILL finish going through it. But... wouldn't buy again.

Superb and an excellent writers' resource!
Are you a fan of Deborah Harkness and her trilogy? Then this will be an extra-special treat for you. Filled with all sorts of historical information and insight by Harkness, fans of the All Souls series will gobble up this reading companion. As an urban fantasy/paranormal writer, I found this companion very helpful. It's an eye-opening read because Harkness shares valuable insight. She's honest about her process and that is priceless. Writers everywhere should pick this up for that reason alone. A must read!My Rating: 4 stars

Stretching One's Mind's Eye
I've loved the trilogy and have read as well as listened to all three on CD. Great world that Deborah Harkness has created in them. Now as to the Reading Companion, I do like the comments and photos---however, I have a pretty clear notion of all the residences and interiors of her world, so seeing what she saw when she was writing is a real perk. My mind's eye has them looking fairly on point with the reality.Such a good endeavor---love it!

Specific Audience, Well Presented.
There is nothing at all the matter with this book. It's well expressed and very narrow in scope. It is written for fans of the All Souls trilogy to read "real time" along with the story line. So, whatever happened on Sept. 18th in the book, is read on the 18th of September of whatever year it's being read, following the story line of how Matthew and Diana meet, get acquainted and go through their adventures, one day at a time between mid September to Halloween night. I guess I just expected more :-)

Nice background book for the All Souls Series, esp first book, A Discovery Of Witches
I shouldn't have bought the kindle version as there are great pictures of locations, but they are too small in the Kindle version. Very nice insights. I like reading a fiction series written by a historian, I looked up all kinds of events and persons which just extended the fun, and this book helps with that research adding the author's insights.

The complete package always at your fingertips
I was delighted to have access to a portable reference Companion to enable me to re-read, in real time, the first book of the All Souls Trilogy, A Discovery of Witches. It contains the dates of the events of the book which covers just forty days in the lives of two main characters, a witch and a vampire, who, according to a long tradition, should have no social contact. Fate intervenes and in that short span of time they meet, interact, fall in love, meet family members, face death, and fully committed step together into the past to hide from their pursuers. This time line lends itself to being read at the right time of year and the story is subtley enhanced. The author has also enriched her story with relevant photographs of places, objects, manuscripts etc together with links to music she found useful for maintaining a mood whilst writing her story. Previously I needed my computer to access these goodies but now it is all neatly packaged in an ebook format.

A perfect companion for the All Souls Trilogy.
I have been a fan of Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy for years. Her world-building is superb and the wealth of detail within the novels is completely absorbing. This companion book clarifies, enhances, illustrates, teases and entertains. A must-have guide to have at hand for ready reference in fandom discussions.

Intriguing Plot
Watched the TV series and loved the characters so had to get the book to see how their story developed and just got hooked. A really fascinating ending with plenty of plot twists. I do hope a sequel is planned for the lesser characters who also deserve a happy ending.

Fab addition to discovery of witches
This is a great accompaniment to the first two books in the trilogy. Photos, music, and snippets of information that ad an extra depth to a discovery of witches and shadow of the night. If only it covered the book of life and now the fourth book times convert. I really missed all that extra depth when reading them.

Handy reference book
I enjoyed this book as both a reader of the Trilogy and as someone who reads a great deal of factual works covering the era of Elizabeth 1st.One warning.Do not read this book until you have completed the Trilogy.
