Excellent guide for core strength training
Review – Core Strength Training from DKCore Strength Training is one of a small series of books from Dorling Kindersley Limited, a Britishcompany. The book is very well done, artfully laid out, well formated, good diagrams of the exercises and relevant information. The information moves from very basic to quite advanced. Obviously much thought and preparation went into creating this book. The book is actually aimed at beginners in the fitness world, but much of the information is of value to all practitioners of fitness at all levels. Good explanation is made of the muscles and their functions, the bones and their functions, the exercises and their uses. Correlation is well made to everyday movents of activities of daily living (ADLs), to sports and to work movements. The exercises are well diagramed, well explained, given a progression of difficulty and of need for preparation with other exercises. Aside from the cover, all images are diagrams of bodies, sometimes with muscles exposed, sometimes just showing the movements. The diagrams are clear in their intent. My only complaints or criticisms is that the unnamed authors include crunches and triceps dips. These two exercises have been thoroughly discredited by experts such as Dr. Stuart McGill and damaging respectively to the spine and the shoulder. This high quality book will take a beginner in fitness to quite a high level or will fill in gaps in knowledge for more advanced practitioners of fitness. It could be the only book used and still have very good results.

No longer in print.
I am rehabilitating my bad back and originally found this book in our local library. It’s exactly what I was looking for so I found a copy on Amazon. Lots of illustrations of exercises that will strengthen your core muscles. Happy to have this in my personal library.

Finally, A Book That Has What I Need!
This book is what I've been searching for after reviewing so many published on this subject! It covers exercises for all situations and conditions. I was once extremely healthy, running and weights training for years; but, then found out I had cancer. After fighting cancer for around 5 years & all that entails, I had lost the physique, stamina, muscle tone, etc. basically the ability to exercise as I wanted. So, on recommendations from my Dr's, I could begin some exefcising again. However, I had to begin with only certain types of exercise, not jumping immediately into what my mind thought I should be able to do. This book helps to reestablish the core I once had; while allowing me to rebuild the muscles that still have some strength left to them. It cuts out all the extra junk that most books waste time and paper with by getting right to the illustrations, descriptions and with so many more options. I'm a few weeks into using this book and while my personal level of energy is not strong, it has helped me to begin again more easily. Definitely a book to recommend to anyone: make, female, different ages, etc.

Incredibly Detailed
Looks like this is the bible of core exercises. I ordered this and I am blown away with the amount of detail and information it contains. Highly recommended

Best and only book on core strength you'll need
This book is packed with illustrations and concise information made easy. I read the whole thing, cover to cover, in a few hours and I am a slow reader. It has very many exercised, listed in order of difficulty, with illustrates about how to do them and what they will target. Also, there are comprehensive workout plans which will take you from no core training to being able to do level 5 exercises like wall walk ups. In short, it's an excellent book and should be a part of anyone's fitness library. Notice that I actually gave it 5 stars which I very rarely do, even for stuff I love. Check my history... I only have a few five star reviews for all the years I've been shopping amazon. This is a truly excellent book for anyone interested in core strength training.

great resource !
This is an excellent book on understanding the importance of core development. It begins by explaining what the core area actually is and how it is the "powerhouse" from which all other body systems flow. I weight train three times a week. I hired a personal trainer for a few months and he was a taskmaster for core development. After reading this book I now get what and why he was trying to accomplish. This book provides many "how to" exercises as well as a good way to access where to begin. Reading and using this book has changed my approach to overall fitness.

Pay attention - valuable resource next to your workout log...
What can I say - excellent material is always the case from this publisher... Highly recommended. The print material is first class and the color just puts frosting on the cake (as they say...). Get this if you're serious about going beyond just slinging DB/BB around in the gym. It delivers the goods. If you don't get get it from this book - you don't need it...

Great book
Great book. Easy to follow. Really great for my wife and I to work at together. My son plays baseball and the book has a core strength routine to help him as well. I would recommend this book for anyone at any level. The book does have exercises that can be done easy or in a more difficult level if you are fitter.

Confused how to begin? Stick at it!
I'm sure it's excellent but I'm still trying to work out how to use it. Unnecessarily complicated, divided & subdivided. I was so looking forward to this book after being ill for a long time, but find myself frustrated & disappointed. Which exercises? All or some? How long to exercise for? Why not just warm up, cool down, beginners, intermediate, advanced. Would have been simple language, simple categories & groupings. Every time I think I've understood how to use the book, I'm thrown by something else. Illustrations and straight information are excellent but I don't understand how to just do a routine from this confusing book.I seem to have sorted out some routines & I think they are how it's the order they are meant to be done! They are as excellent as all the 5 star reviews attest. But I'm giving a max of 3 stars as I think this excellent material could have been presented much more clearly with regard to actual routines and with far less jargon & over categorisation. Anyone else finding it confusing - stick at it. It's worth it.

Great content but confusing lay-out loses a star!
Excellent illustrations as with majority of DK offerings, content really is first rate HOWEVER... the value and effectiveness of the book is let down by the poorly laid out format of the book, which I think is overwhelming and not easy or straightforward to plot a path through.Definitely recommend persevering with it because the content is superb and better than probably 80% of the alternatives out there - it covers everything from why/what/how/when and the basic equipment suggestions are spot-on... combine this with some Mirafit equipment and maybe an app. on your phone and you'll be amazed!

not what it seems to be
Although the advertising looked as if this book was aimed at young men, I bought it anyway. Am a pensioner female with osteoporosis of the spine. This book is brilliant for me.

A useful guide
Only gave it 3 stars as I have seen the content before elsewhere and didn't learn much new but still a useful guide if you've only seen core training delivered by exercises rather than principles. Annoyed me that every exercise had a blanket statement about correct form rather than pointing out key movement errors.

100% pleased with the buy.
This was a great read. Very good artwork and a wide range of exercises and levels to choose from. You will be abler to cobble a routine that's right for you with a bit of experimentation. Don't do more than 3 exercises of a body part though or you'll over train.
