Go Board Game Set - Beginner's Two Player Strategy Game with Reversible Board and Melamine Pieces for Adults and Children

this is a bright yellow veneer on a thin sheet of bulk wood. the lines are printed on and the stones are bigger and flatter than i expected. the stones fit fine in the two containers and the containers are great so far.at the end of the day this is a great teaching board you wont feel bad about if it gets stolen while you are away from it in the park or diner.i really like the aesthetic of a proper Go set and this doesnt have it but i didnt expect it to. if you get this you will want to upgrade to a thick real wood board with carved lines and double convex stones. eventually bonus points if its the full 19x19 size.

Honestly you get what you pay for… wish the stones were thicker and the board itself leaves much to be desired. But for a cheap way to get started this is perfect! Everything seemed to be in good shape.

My Go gameboard and stones arrived this morning! I was so excited! I've watch the documentary AlphGo online and that made me realize the significance of this game. I've been curious about this game for about 20 years but not until now have I actually committed to learning its intricacies. This is not a regulation size board as it has fewer than 19 X19 but it is the perfect size (and cost) for beginners! The stones are not convex on both sides either but having one side convex and the other flat is fine for learning the game. The stones also have a nice feel and weight to them. This is a very sturdy game setup for beginners and a good starter set at less than $25 compared to the next step up at around $65-$70. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

I bought this as a gift but am disappointed in the finish on the board. It lacks smoothness

Order arrived on time and in a shipping box. When I open the box, the game was in a bag. Inside the bag, all of the white pieces had come out of their container and the game box was crushed. Looks like a third of the white pieces are missing. I’m assuming everything else is there.Probably a nice starter set, but the handling was a mess.

This is a great set! I like the stones a lot. I like the texture of the stones, kind of a "matte" finish, not shiny. The board is pretty thin, but good. It is a great set especially for the price.

Ok, Go is a tough board game to master. It requires strategy and visualization of future positions that would deter most players from the game.HOWEVER, if you have played Go before and love the visual appeal as well, as the challenging puzzle likes situation that comes with playing other players, this is a Great Starter set for NEW PLAYERS.Board quality is very lightweight, thin and sturdy, and suitable for beginners as the board is both a 9x9 and 13x13 size. Good for learning the fundamentals of the game or quick battles with another player. Can’t complain. Stones are decent weight and uniform, at least during the first inspection upon opening.My only complaint is that there are no travel cases that can be used to carry the bowls and stones in when traveling. They are standalone so you would need to have a separate carrying bag or grocery bag to hold them.DISCLAIMER: I bought these as a gift so I haven’t fully tested them out yet during my own travels but they are well made. Would recommend this for brand-new beginners to the game!

This is a great set for a beginner. While you get something more 'high end' (thicker, polished board for example) it would be significantly more money. This is good quality, not at all shoddy. And I love that it has the 9x9 on one side, the 13x13 on the other. Also, you get enough stones for the full 19x19 board (181 black, 180 white). So if you want to play on 19x19 you don't necessarily have to buy another set of stones, just the board. The board is 3/16 inch thick, so there are thicker boards, yet this one is not flimsy.
