Classic arcade meets modern fun.
In the 1980's, arcade machines were all the rage. In Dig Dug, protagonist Taizo Hori inflated/blew up enemies with his trusty driller. In the much-anticipated sequel DD: Digging Strike, he returns with a much bigger goal in mind: to sink/collapse the various islands that horde numerous enemies and huge bosses. (similar to Dig Dug 2)The top half of the dual screen is the "surface" part of the island. Taizo must enter each hole and go underground (what you see on the bottom dual, touch-screen) to drive down the stakes, thereby creating "cuts" or "cracks" on the surface. Depending on the direction of each adjoining crack, you will eventually break apart the island and destroy the boss. Taizo will need many power-ups in order to progress through 15 areas/80 levels.Overall, DD: Digging Strike incorporates many classic arcade elements from DD 1 and DD2 to provide hours of non-stop, puzzling entertainment! :)

Way too Easy
You'll be selling this game used on Amazon (which is exactly how I bought it) within a week. It is way too easy to solve. Why didn't Namco give more challenges? The map has 3 islands left untouched at the end of the game. Why didn't they use them for bigger/tougher bosses??The game is very cute, though. 2 stars for cuteness.

Game is great; 8-bit Warehouse isn't
Cartridge arrived on time, with the plastic melted badly along the bottom and top and nearly unable to fit into the DS cartridge slot, the prongs were filthy and could barely be read by the system. The game works, but barely. The seller should provide photos of the product rather than the box art.

It's a great game, I just don't like it. ;)
When reading reviews for any product, it's always important to consider the point of view of the author and how that may affect their assessment of the product. I figure the same is true when writing reviews, so I wanted to make sure that people knew my reasons for not liking the game.I am 39 years old, and only bought a Nintendo DS about a month ago. I knew from the time I first saw one that most of the software was not going to be aimed at people of my age or gaming habits. Still, there were a few titles that caught my interest. Most of these were updates of classic arcade titles, or new compilations of arcade classics that either offered different titles than previous ones for the GameBoy Advance or just better emulation. In the case of Dig Dug - Digging Strike, it was definitely apparent that the title was aimed at younger players, but I couldn't resist giving it a try. Essentially the game is the original Dig Dug on the lower screen played simultaneously with Dig Dug II on the upper screen. The concept itself is a completely natural evolution for this game, although it had been touched on with the PC title Dig Dug Deeper, where you can at least surface in order to catch that last Pooka or Fygar that always runs away.I'm pretty sure the multiplayer mode might let you jump right in and have an arcade-style battle, but the Story mode is very nice as well. I'm a fan of most things Japanese, but not RPGs, so getting a nice RPG-style Story Mode in a game that's more suited to my tastes was a nice bonus. Even so, I just found the multitasking that was required in order to effectively play the game was more than I was willing to commit to. Even though I like Dig Dug II, the switch to drilling rather than digging was an unwelcome adjustment for me. In this game, having to dig very methodically in order to facilitate the "drilling" (actually just pre-set spikes that fall as you dig under them) on the surface just made the whole process too much of a chore for my tastes. As I said before, I think the concept is great, and it's a very rich gaming experience for anyone who's serious about learning to play a game and has the time to do so (i.e. kids and hardcore gamers). For me, I just want a short-term enemy-blasting joyride. For this reason, I highly recommend the game to fans of the Dig Dug and Mr. Driller franchises (you'll find out in the opening sequence how they are related... I won't spoil it here), but not necessarily for anyone who just wants to play the original games. Namco Museum DS is a great option for fans of Dig Dug II, and Namco Museum for the GameBoy Advance is great for the original game. Thanks for reading, and I hope my own personal bias against the game won't deter anyone who thinks they may enjoy it from giving it a try. I just wouldn't spend a lot of money on it if you're only buying it for the name Dig Dug.

Four Stars
Not quite as easy as the original, but my kids liked it well enough.

Why must i watch the story intro's everytime......
The game it's self is more or less the same as the dig dug one with an overview map that's kinda like the dig dug II on the NES. But, the twist is combining both the Dig Dug with that goofy Dig Dug II overview map that kinda involved destroying the islands to defeat the pugs and whatever the little dragon guys name was.... Not a bad idea and it's actually fun if you liked those two versions of Dig Dug. But, some of the bonus weapons are pointless and overall have no use really in this game. And, sadly for whatever reason one is forced to watch the story dialoge over and over and over and over... Really... Even the story dialoge before you get to the title screen!!! Why!!! First time it's like sure! But, over and over no. Not cool what so ever!! Plus, the story is very lame even for children who will find the story bland and meaningless. Think you can mash some buttens and skip it? Nope!!! The game and concept of mashing Dig Dug and Dig Dug II is a good idea and is rather fun. Concept of forced story over and over and useless bonus weapons lame. So, this game can rather be a push for fans of Dig Dug if you're a member of one of those online game rentals you may wish to try first before plunging in on this game....
