Length between poles?

Right about 10 feet (a 40' net has 5 poles, I assume a 50' net has 6 poles, etc).

I see that this product is made for grass surfaces and "soft" ground, but will it work with dryer patches of dirt in desert areas?

The Desert ground is pretty hard so I would recommend a small amount of cement placed into the hole that has been dug to prevent the pole from falling.

I ordered 2 20' sections. I received enough poles, but I have to cut the netting as the netting came as one 40' length?

You should have gotten 2 nets for 2 separate orders. I would call the owner. But you did good
