Secret of Pax Tharkas: Dwarf Home, Book 1 Kindle Edition

Of all the authors to contribute to the DragonLance universe Doug Niles has penned some of my favorite contributions, notably  The Messenger: Icewall Trilogy, Book 1 . I have not read a DragonLance novel in several years and when I went looking for a new one I was thrilled to discover Doug has a new trilogy in the Dwarf Home. I picked this up for my  Kindle Fire HDX 7", HDX Display, Wi-Fi, 16 GB - Includes Special Offers (Previous Generation - 3rd)  and used the text to speech function to listen to about 30 minutes to an hour each night before bed and the book was fantastic. Doug manages to tell the combine the tale of several characters in to a delightful series of arcs which even goes so far as to make a gully dwarf a central comedic character to the developing plot. Unlike some dwarf novels which tend to stick to subterranean issues Doug deals with surface dwarfs, notably hill dwarfs, and sees the party travelling on the surface as needed.Overall I would recommend this book. Nearly all story elements conclude at the end so it's capable of standing by itself should you not wish to read the rest of the trilogy.

The Bluestone Luck....all bad if you believe the rumors. Brandon certainly does as his family's fortunes wane, his brother is murdered, their gold claim is stolen, and he is thrown out of Thorbardin and then twice imprisoned. On the other hand, perhaps it is part of Reorx' Master Plan. After all, he has also met the beautiful Gretchen, priestess of Reorx, bested an evil monster, and stopped an internecine war -- at least for the time being.

Good characters all 'round. Some tropes are just plain fun to read, while the story is kept fresh and entertaining in other ways.Fans of Bruenor Battlehammer or Flint Fireforge will have yet another kinsman to venerate. And, it was certainly refreshing to meet the priestess of Reorx. Would gladly read more about her adventures.

I am a big fan of all things related to the Dragon Lance world. there are many many off shoot stories related to the original Dragon Lance Saga's and this a another good set

There isn't a Dragonlance book I have read yet that disappoints. Truly a great series.

Douglas Niles has never disappointed me. This book is no different. The writing hand your attention and holds it.Very amazing book

I always enjoy a good Dragonlance book, and this is the first in a trilogy based on the story of the Dwarf Home - Pax Tharkas, Kayolin, Thorbardin - all the lands and territories of the various dwarf tribes, long after the Cataclysm. All the dwarven nations are at odds with each other and even with their own kin, the clans finding differences and reasons to continue their antipathy. Into this is added the machinations of the evil wizard Willim the Black, and the desire to find a way to peace for the dwarves of Gretchan Pax, a gully dwarf called Gus, and the mysterious dwarf Oracle. What can all this, and the search for some mysterious gems, mean for the dwarves? Can't wait to find out in the next in this series. Great stuff - highly recommended for any lover of Dragonlance, Forgotten Realm, or similar novels. Douglas Niles has written more than a dozen Dragonlance novels, and he has a really good feel for their style, and the characterisations.

Nach dem letzten großen Krieg auf Krynn, der Welt der Drachenlanze, haben sich die Zwerge der Nation von Thorbardin erneut vor der Welt verschlossen und die Eingänge zu ihrem unterirdischen Reich versiegelt. Doch nicht nur nach außen schottet sich diese Gesellschaft ab. Auch nach innen nehmen, forciert durch den Usurpator des Thrones des High Thanes Jungor Stonespringer, fundamentalistische Strömungen und Unterdrückung zu. Eines der letzten Edikte dieses Diktators ist die Auslöschung der Ethnie der Gossenzwerge, einer etwas degenerierten Unterart der Zwerge. Doch genau das wird sich noch als großer Fehler herausstellen denn da ist ein besonderer Gossenzwerg, Gus, der tatsächlich ab und zu einige "Geistesblitze" hat für einen Gossenzwerg. Und dann ist da noch der schwarze Willim, ein Magier der sein eigenes dunkles Spiel treibt...Einige tausend Meilen entfernt in einer weiteren Nation der Zwerge, in Kayolin, unternehmen Brandon und Nailer Bluestone, 2 junge Zwerge (jung heisst so ca. 50-60 Jahre ;) ) eine Expedition in die Unterwelt um nach neuen Goldadern und Mineralienvorkommen zu suchen. Aber das in Kayolin sprichwörtliche Bluestone-Glück wendet sich gegen sie und Brandon muss erleben wie er vom Schicksal durch Verrat dazu gezwungen wird den toten Körper seines Bruders zu seinem Vater zu tragen...In den Weiten der Karolis-Berge wandert die junge Zwergin, Geweihte des Zwergengottes Reorx und Historikerin Gretchan Pax mit ihrem Hund auf den Spuren der alten Zwergenkulturen. Neben ihrem historischen Interesse führt sie auch noch die Geschichte ihrer Familie auf diese Pfade doch dies ist ein wohlgehütetes Geheimnis...Natürlich sorgt der Fluss der Zeit dazu daß sich alle diese Personen treffen werden und die Zwerge stehen erneut vor der Gefahr eines Bruderkrieges...FazitDen ersten Band habe ich verschlungen. Das schlimmste was ich zu dieser Geschichte sagen kann: Der 3. Band erscheint erst nächstes Jahr und wird wohl leider der allerletzte Drachenlanze-Roman nach 25 Jahren und über 220 Büchern dieser wunderbaren Welt werden:( . Die Charaktere sind sehr interessant, die Geschichte wirft mal wieder einen detaillierten Blick auf die Zwerge mit ihrer besonderen Kultur und Geschichte was mir sehr gut gefällt, und das Krynnsche Gesamtfeeling stimmt auch. Wer Dragonlance/Drachenlanze mag und das eine oder andere Dutzend Romane dieser mit Abstand best ausgearbeiteten Fantasy-Welt gelesen hat oder besitzt der muss hier eigentlich zugreifen. Grade für den unverschämt niedrigen Preis kriegt man wirklich mehr als ordentlichen Gegenwert für 2-3 Abende Spannung, Action und auch eine menge Spaß.Da ich bereits mehr als 50 DL(Dragonlance)-Romane gelesen habe bin ich da eh etwas unbegabt wenn es um eine faire Benotung von DL-Büchern geht. Aber bei diesem Werk sind 5 Sterne angebracht!
