SMALL SIZE, SMALL SOUND, BUT EXCELLENT BOOMBOX
I bought this boombox because we just had a two-day power outage and I had nothing to listen to but a tiny Walkman portable radio, and I don't like having to use headphones when I'm trying to make and eat my supper. I needed something small and lightweight, which could use batteries, because I am storing it on the top shelf of a closet until the next power outage. For something so small, and it is really small, it sounds great as long as the bass boost is on. The volume will only go as high as 31, which does not compete very well with my air conditioner, but it is only on a few classical CD's where the volume seems a little low. The volume for the radio is excellent. It has a wonderful feature in that when you hit the stop button, it will stop the CD and return you to the beginning of the same track when you hit play again. No need to keep the CD spinning endlessly on pause. I sure wish my Sony CD changer did that. My only complaint is that the headphone jack is on the back!

Perfect for a Baby-boomer Music Lover
I've been looking for an 'old school' style boombox, but didn't want to buy an antique used one. This Sony unit has everything I was looking for, built with current technology... decent AM/FM radio, CD player and the bonus of a cassette player. I use the Mega Bass sound enhancement, which adds some rich overall EQ, and CDs sound especially good in this thing. The cassette player is as basic as they get - no counter, making it necessary to guess where a particular cut might be, but the sound is good and it's fun to listen to old cassettes. The unit is compact and amazingly lightweight, even with batteries. I sometimes play music with my Android phone plugged in (with provided cord) and it works great for that purpose, too. Comes with good instructions and accessories. Way back in the day, I had a Sony boombox that lasted for decades, so I hope this one will continue Sony's tradition of making excellent audio products.

Overall not bad, but lacking bass
I've had this for a month or two and I'd say it's good boombox for what I paid for. We got it to replace the old one in our kitchen because it would skip really bad whenever we played CD's. Overall plays music pretty well and can get loud, and holds the CD well. The only complaint I have is that it sounds hollow without the "mega-bass" on. I just keep it on all the time, since without it there isn't much bass at all. Also the aux cord is a little funky. I tried playing music from my laptop and it didn't work too well, because I guess the cord didn't make the connection well or something? I don't know. I haven't bothered trying it with a different aux cord so hopefully that's the problem and the port's not just bad or whatever. (I was able to play music through my friend's speaker well so my laptop's not the problem.) But yeah, mostly I'll listen to NPR on it or I'll throw a CD in and I've been happy with it so far.

Just want a READABLE MANUAL!
Product great, but was NO MANUAL IN& since the presets were no atypical set ups was NO WAY TO GUESS THROUGH IT! The manufacturer responded promptly, but only with a email of the manual.hense, EVERYTIME need to set up systems on radio-clock, presets, timer, cd& radio functions, must go to email on phone-with EXTREMELY TINY PRINT- & enlarge a portion at a time just to be able to even read manufacturers manual. A beyond annoying situation, which they choose to ignore,I did ask them to mail that TINY MANUAL-can you image trying to read even a line on a smartphone-you have to do to understand how ridiculous, like a bubble gum wrapper. I did explain& ask them to mail, but they ignored request. I pay the postage if that their problem. No product should come with NO INFORMATION,as this one did,is it really so hard to put the manual in a envelope& mail? Things go wrong,I get that, but why not send what I paid for- I send a paid self addressed stamped envelope if they would send me the dam manual- does little good what I can get scrolling thru email copy sent cause print so tiny! And of course printed on every inch space front& back! Multiple combos required to use system,so manual IS IMPORTANT, not to mention what other paperwork that wasn't there that probably should of been.LITERALLY NO WRITTEN INFO, if not for amazon following up, I didn't even HAVE ANY CONTACT INFO FOR THEM& STILL DONT. Again, could you please just MAIL manual that should of been with radio& any other information, since got NOTTA, what if warranty needs to be registered? Cause I wouldn't know- NO PAPERWORK OF ANYKIND IN BOX! Amazon's order info was in outer box, but just order form. You try reading manual you emailed on a smartphone screen! How hard is it to put in mail? I will pay postage

Mega Bass?
I needed a unit that I could record CD to cassette tapes. This box does it with ease and I am truly satisfied with the results. But don't purchase it for ANY type of impressive sound quality. It is what it is based on the mere size of it but for the price you would expect it to be a FRACTION of what competitive technology puts into smaller speakers. And the Mega Bass feature is laughable. I would recommend for the CD to cassette task alone. Just don't expect Mega! sound.
