The Little Book of Research Writing

This book is just perfect. Everything is laid out in a clear and concise way, very easy to find what it is you want to learn. As an undergraduate student, I read this book in order to prepare myself for future research essays. I feel so much more confident and capable when it comes to writing a research paper. Everything is covered. Forming a thesis, constructing an outline, research paper layout, etc... There are neat graphics that dissect research papers and show where you should insert your arguement and then an explanation. It's things like this that make the whole writing process feel less daunting.

The Little Book of Research Writing submits a process of structuring your research paper with the clear intention to teach your readers through your writing. Your readers will experience an exposition that is easy to follow, easy to question, easy to predict. The book is "little" enough to cover every structural aspect of the writing research process: your position in the literature, your research question, and the answers to your research question, among others. The author presents her method in a very easy to read and understand format. This book is a brilliant book to learn how to write an economics research paper. Very practical advice and easy to follow and implement.

This is an outstanding resource for graduate students in economics -- it's written by someone with a background in academic economics, and is the best resource I've found for helping my own PhD students improve the structure and clarity of their writing, while adhering to the norms and expectations of the field.

Extremely useful book. Offers a method that makes easier not only the process of writing, but the act of starting to write.Please, do yourself a favour and buy it.

Overall this book is awesome. Really helpful for research writing guidance. But it is very thin and paper quality is just so so, the price is a little bit high.

The book arrived with the text upside down compared to the cover. It's a shame because the content of the book is good, but the printing press clearly made a large mistake.

must read for phd students in economics

a great book. it teaches a method for research writing which makes a lot of sense, I feel it will help me a lot in my future writings. I think it will be useful not only to graduate students but also to tenured and tenure-track researchers and professors. Although there are examples from many disciplines, and I guess it can probably be useful to researchers in all fields, it seems to be mainly targeted to economists.

I was extremely disappointed with this book, especially after reading all the very positive recommendations on Amazon.The book probably works in place of handouts for a workshop on writing. However, I could not make out the method the author is trying to communicate for improving academic writing. I think that if the author approached the book as a guide for those who do not take a workshop it would make for a much better book.Also, having the help of a professional copy editor would help in making the page layout easier to understand. As it now stands, many of the diagrams are so small that the text in the diagrams is illegible. Also, some of the larger text in the diagrams are undecipherable. Further, the use of space and the positioning of graphics is rather odd and takes away from what the author is attempting to communicate.For what you get, this book is an overpriced version of workshop handouts. I hope the author takes these comments as constructive criticism and does a complete re-write. The author's method for improving academic writing from those who have taken the author's workshop appears to be really helpful. If only I could make out what it is from this book.
