Solid
This is a solid book to use for adults and kids learning how to play rock guitar. It teaches single note "bass" lines and then shows you how toadd the 5th and make it a power chord, the basic sound behind many, many rock songs. It starts with simple rhythms.Later in the book the rhythms get a little more complex, adding in 16thnotes and "pick" noise as in Brain Stew and Teen Spirit. All examples are broken down into smaller sections that are more easily learned. There are examples in slow mode and then regular speed. Then the sections are linked together to give you a good idea to play the song. There are no complete songs here, but with this book you get alot more then just a book of riffs, you get FUN! and with a little effort you can learn the whole song on your own. While having fun, you are also learning rock rhythms and training your ear to "hear" the changes. This is a real good book for rock guitar.

Exceptional Book
I teach 60+ guitar students a week. I use a wide variety of method books. This is a fantastic book. Not only do the tracks 'sound like' the actual songs for the most part (and not the hokey backing tracks on so many books), but the book is very progressive, building the songs lick by lick and then putting it all together. There is even a 'slow' and a 'fast' version of the track which ends up being the speed of the actual song. That way the students can practice at a slower pace, then give the actual tempo a shot.Highly recommended. Good songs too.

Loving this book!
I'm not too far into the book but I'm already recreating some great riffs from great songs. As has been said by other reviewers, you will not learn an entire song in this book. You'll learn only the power chord riffs, but that's what this book is all about so it's nothing to complain about. Some pictures of fretting hand positions would have been nice but it's no deal breaker. The included CD slowly ramps you up on each song to play the full power chord section of the lesson. You'll play the root notes first, slowly, then quickly. Some songs, such as Brain Stew have additional lessons and CD tracks to learn other skills like fret hand muting. There is a backing track to the songs as well with drums. If I were king of the world, I would have also included just the backing track for each song so you could play along with the drums and not hear the guitar on the CD.But all-in-all the book gives me exactly what I was looking for.

Power chords are pretty easy, but this book does a good job explaining the basics and gives you some GREAT practice songs/riffs. Recommended for beginners/intermediate level. Cheers.

The power to play power chords
Brilliant book & on line examples. This book is very well written with step by step tab & on line example on the awesome Hal Leonard website. The book & on line content work very well with guitar, book & tablet, much easier than the old CD method. Not really suitable for beginners
