Are you serious???
The media could not be loaded. I had high hopes for this product that quickly disintegrated as soon as I opened it. Here is the issue, the part that holds the drink flips down every time you put your drink in it. That’s before I installed it on the boat! Imagine being in your boat and every time you put your drink back it flip down and you have to manually flip it up and put it around your drink....that’s just insane!Going back immediately

Useful, accurate dimensions posted here!
The arms of this cup holder have a maximum width of 3-1/8" with the rubber sleeves on. Without the sleeves, it maxes out at 3-1/4". Minimum diameter is 2-3/16", and without the sleeves it is 2-5/16".Folded dimensions are 4" tall, 3-13/16" wide, and 13/16" thick.Screw hole pattern is 2-17/32" across on center, and 2-1/16" vertically, and on center. With the arms folded up, and just using the bottom plate as your drink holder, about 3-7/16" maximum diameter. This is perfect for cans and glass bottles, and the aluminum beer cans. Works well with my Thermos vacuum insulated coffee mug as well.If the upper arms were redesigned, it would be perfect. The arms do fold down a little easier than what i would hope for. if the part of the arm that butts against the mounting plate were square shaped, instead of rounded at the bottom, it would keep the arms in the horizontal position a lot better. As far as the width goes? pretty much ranges from the small red bull cans, to just barely a one liter bottle of water. A slightly larger size range would be better, but I can work with this (mostly beer and mixed drinks on my boat, don't judge)I am a car restorer/metal fabricator by trade, so I am going to TIG weld some stainless rod to the bottom of the arms where they butt up against the mounting plate, to make 'em essentially square so they stay horizontal a little better.

It works but has a lot of drawbacks
It works but I wish the arms would spread further apart and if they locked in the open position. Nothing sucks more than trying to blindly put your drink in it while driving just to have the bottom of your drink push the arms down, now you have a drink in your hand and no place to securely put it while trying to push the arms back up with the same hand that you have a drink grasped around. To top it off its even worse when you drive a car with a manual transmission.Sure, I can look down and place my drink in it, but I dont like averting my eyes from the road, a lot can happen in a matter of a few seconds, especially when traveling at highway speeds. Also my car doesnt have cup holders because Sports Car! Just in case you're wondering why I dont just put my drink in another cupholder. This is the only cup holder in my car.I only use this to hold the small can of Redbulls since it cant really hold anything else. Also beware of the sharp edges in a certain area, it doesnt bother me since its in an area that my fingers will never be in or touch but if you have kids or dumb friends, they could possibly cut themselves. The only thing I really like is that you can cinch the arms to firmly hold your beverage while doing some spirited driving and not have your beverage sliding and tilting around inside the cup holder. Thats the only positive I can think of, maybe another is that its metal and less likely to break than plastic but I don't think redbulls weigh that much anyways. Ill let you decide on that one.

All Metal Construction More Durable than the Plastic it Replaced
The plastic cup holder that was installed by the factory next to the front passenger seat in my motorhome was flimsy enough for my wife to break it after a couple of years. A replacement from a Winnebago dealer would have cost more and would have been made of the same flimsy plastic as the one that was broken. I ordered this metal replacement from Amazon believing that it will be more durable. My order arrived when promised and I found the cup holder to be exactly as it was represented. The functional parts of this cup holder are all metal. There is a thin black foam pad on the bottom that reduces rattling if a glass or other hard container is in the holder while we're traveling on a bumpy road. The width of the plastic coated metal clamp at the top is adjustable to fit and tightly secure most beverage containers. The back mounting plate was the same size as the plastic cup holder it replaced. Rather than use the mounting screws that were included with this cup holder, I used the hardened, self-tapping screws that I removed from the old cup holder because the wall on which this holder is mounted is made of metal. My included photo shows it after installation. I am pleased with my purchase.

Design Flaws
I just wish i had taken notice of some of the reviews. This item despite being very well made has one major issue, the moment you go to place anything into it, then it just collapses on you and the holders fold down.Fine if you want to take both hands of of what you are doing but as it will end up in a boat, car or van then thats crazy.A simple spring locking mechanism with a release button would have been the way to go.As a point of interest, this exact same unit is offered under something like 20 different name brands, they are all identical and obviously manufactured by the same company. Please don't waste your time, its just unusable unless you use both hands.

Better than the plastic ones
I really like the sturdiness of the stainless over the cheap plastic cup holders. The only issues I've had with these is that the rubber sleeve/coating on the cup prongs grabs onto the cup/bottle, and the prongs are too easy to fold down. When combined, these two issues consistently cause the prongs to fold down when I put my cup or shaker bottle into the holder, so I have to use two hands to put my cup into it--one to hold the prongs up in position, and one to put the cup into the holder. I might try removing the rubber sleeve to see if that helps. I think if the manufacturer would make the prongs much harder to fold down then this cup holder would be perfect.

Brilliant. We put these in our motorhome and every time my husband uses his he say they're one of the best purchases we've made. Fantastic quality, look great and of course do the job they're intended for extremely well.

Good quality
Good quality and does the job. Needs a fairly slim glass or mug.

This has been fitted on the steering peðestal of a sailing boat by the wheel. It's stainless steel and has stood up to the elements well. However, the C shaped top part of the holder does not stay up when the cup is lifted as the spring is too weak to hold it. Hence only 2 stars.

Design and quality good, but item damaged
Design seems good and steel reasonably good quality. However, it arrived damaged, with its steel face dented (creased).
