Must use telephone surge protector.
The Freedom Alert failed Step 2 of its installation instructions. I called customer service. Patricia asked what lights were on. I told her the power light was off and the battery status light was on. "I was afraid of that," said Patricia, and she told me to return the unit to Amazon and next time use a telephone surge protector. In case you don't know, a telephone surge protector takes clip-in phone lines. I didn't know that because there has never been a problem with any of the several cordless phones I've installed in Mom's house. So now what? Do I order a telephone surge protector and give Freedom Alert another try? Or do look for another product? Rick

Over priced and can't receive calls
It's ok but not worth the price you pay. Also great for when my dad would call out but not when he receives a call.

Buy a different unit/brand.
Cannot get either remote to communicate with the base—even with fully charged batteries. Makes the unit worthless. Would have returned it if I hadn’t been in the hospital!!

This is the perfect alert system if you don't want to pay a monthly fee.
I bought the previous model of this product for my mother. I did not want a monthly fee medical alert and did not want medical assistance people running to her home every time she accidentally pushed the button. I set it up to only call me. She has rolled over on it during the night many times and it has been a false alert but it came in handy for the first time last week. She stepped outside on her patio in her pajamas on a cool day and locked herself out of the house. Obviously she didn't have access to her home phone so she pushed the button and we talked. I arranged a friend to go pick her up and put her in their car until I arrived an hour later with a key to the house. She has an 1.5 acre lot and I had previously tested it for outside emergencies up to one acre and it worked great. I love this product. They need a digital version of it however because this only works on the old fashioned copper wire landlines but I did notice they had a bluetooth adapter for cell phones. I am thinking about getting it because my mother got caught up in a bait and switch landline phone provider scam and now it appears she will be losing her landline and home number. Digital is now the only option. This is the perfect device when you want a disabled or elderly person to be able to contact you when they can't access a phone without getting so many other people and services involved.
