Sounds beautiful first of all, crisp sound like the new 16 and up L5P Duramax starters. Awesome quality and much cheaper than OEM if not better. Definitely recommend, dont listen to some of the bad reviews. Take the actual exhaust of the downpipe and its possible to get it out the bottom pretty easily. I also noticed the truck starts 5 times faster with this starter compare to the CarQuest parts store starter.

My 05 Duramax LLY was starting to crank slow when hot. My truck is a 2wd, so it was a pretty easy job, probably 35 minutes start to finish. Hardest part was probably turning it in different ways to get it out. Past the frame and exhaust

Seems to be good quality cranks over quickly. We will see how long it lasts.

I have always been an O'rielly parts guy but I took a chance and ordered this starter based on price and description. The product looked and matched the factory starter to a T and many years later, it is still providing excellent service. Don't let the price fool you as it is half of the factory price. The starter is well made and actually I replaced the factory starter 2 times before I purchased this DB Electricl SHI0116 starter. I was frustrated with the factory or GM products since I never k new if they would fail me at the worst possible moment. Image being at a diner with your family in the evening and getting into your vehicle and you turn the key and nothing happens. You crawl under the vehicle and can't get the engine started so now you have to wait on a wrecker and then get a rental until your vehicle is repaired. What a killer. I now have peace of mind since the starter works like it should and has not missed a beat. Trust this product and it is well worth the money.

Kinda a bitch to install but that’s not the starters fault works great been on my truck for almost 2 years now not a single issue.

I purchased this for a '03 Chevy Silverado with a Duramax. It arrived on time and fit well, and worked perfectly for two weeks until the solenoid failed. I knew I was taking a risk buying cheap parts, so I'm not really surprised or even disappointed, just consider this: to replace the starter on the Duramax you need to remove the fender skirt and disconnect the exhaust at the down pipe. Even then it's a tight fit and what should be a 30 minute job takes closer to two hours (of knuckle busting and wrist scraping). There's a good chance you'll need to replace the V-band clamp on the exhaust as well and they are expensive. Bottom line, this is a substandard part (Amazon should have a zero star rating) and because of the labor involved it's not worth the potential savings, spend $70 more bucks and get a quality starter.

Updated Review - Purchased 3/2018 Have bought several Starters over the years from DB Electrical. Always had good luck. This is October 2021 and just had to replace it, so got 3 1/2 years of multiple starts every day. Better service life than I've gotten from the discount auto stores

price was right and my truck starts like its bran new...

It's sold as a new Hitachi unit, but there are no marking on the unit to support that claim. And the load test they sent for the unit was dated 2009, not sure if the paper was just an old reprint or the unit was old stock. None the less it is exactly like the Hitachi unit that came out of my truck and it works great.

Just installed this in July and it’s October and it’s now dead in the water. This is crap. Get OEM!!
