Keep in mind your band of TV
Page 38 of owner's manual: If the TV supports the ARC (Audio Return Channel) function (*), use only theHDMI cable to connect with the TV. Use the ARC-compatible HDMI IN jack of theTV for connection.I bought the Digital audio cable since my TV is NOT ARC. My previous Onkyo receiver was a TX-904 I bought in 1990. This new receiver is pretty good so far. Download the owner's manual. It does not come with a hard copy one. Also connect the WiFi to your unit so the unit can update its firmware. The Bluetooth feature is handy for picking up my portable MP3 player. I don't have this receiver model all tricked out but it should be a really good unit for your entertainment system. I had to work at finding one of these here on Amazon but it was well worth the effort. Price was fair. My old Onkyo served me well. I hope this current Onkyo unit lasts like my previous one did ( by the way the old Onkyo TX-904 is still running just fine. It was long past time to upgrade )

Great value
This was a breeze to set up. I was dead set on getting Audessey (my other Onkyo has it) and I was on the fence on this and a Denon. The NR595 has more features that I need and will use. The sound is great. Onkyo's dynamic amplification takes the place of Audessey, what was I worried about. This was my first experience with auto calibration, not impressed. I used my own settings. I don't know how calibration came up with its numbers, but they seemed off. IDK.Although the NR595 sounds way better than the old one there are similarities.I am in the process of up dating the speakers with Polk, but with what I have so far I like. Polk CS10 center, PSW 10 Sub, Polk T15 on order. I'm using a couple of the speakers from an older Onkyo system for height speakers. Atmos works fine, I am very pleased.

terrific system, good price, easy setup
Gone are the days when you plugged a few speaker wires into the back of your stereo receiver and enjoyed stereo sound for your music and TV/movies. Now receivers are the brains behind your entire home theater system, and this Onkyo is a smart addition to mine. One HDMI cord from each device - Apple TV, satellite DVR, DVD, etc - goes into the back of the receiver and one “main” HDMI cord runs from the receiver to the TV and your new system just joined the Geek Squad. This Onkyo made all my devices “smart” - turn one of them on and both the TV and the receiver turn on and are ready to fill your room with wall-to-wall sound. Turn off the device and everything else powers down too. Set-up was easy - although I’d prefer a less tricky attachment system for all those speaker wires - and I was enjoying 5.1 Dolby sound within a few minutes (the unit is capable of 7.1, though). Powering the Zone 2 speakers in my backyard took a call to Onkyo’s customer service hotline (turns out only the first three inputs - DVD, Game and Cable/Satellite - allow a separate feed into Zone 2, so my Apple TV is now inputted thru Game rather than Streambox). Sound quality is terrific, picture quality is great too as this unit upscales non-4K content for my 4K monitor while true 4K content from my streaming services is gorgeous. My previous “dumb” receiver was an Onkyo and lasted more than 15 years. I hope this 595 unit keeps me entertained for that long as well.UPDATE May '24 - although I was very happy with this receiver when first purchased and installed, after a short while it started "acting up" and has never been as great as it was on first bloom. For example, when turning on our Apple TV, the TV and receiver both power up but the receiver often clicks to another setting - like TV or DVR - so I'll have to wait for it to realize only the Apple TV (connected to GAME) is on and what we want to use. Frustrating. Other times, it won't recognize when another device is turned on and I'll have to manually switch inputs. I'm not complaining about the quality of the sound or picture, it's the way this unit works - or doesn't work - which is bothersome. I see now that others find the same faults so it's not just me. Now, 5 years down the road, there's a new issue where the image is overlapped with 2 inputs at the same time - which makes this thing completely useless except as a stereo receiver. Will likely upgrade soon and probably not to another Onkyo. Maybe a Denon?

This receiver is loaded with features for the pric
I upgraded from my last Onkyo receiver because I thought it had developed problems. It turns out I was wrong about that; it was a lost connection, nothing more. But I was very impressed with the features of this new one. It features both Dolby ATMOS and DTS X. ATMOS requires proprietary speakers, which I don’t have, but my current 5.1 sound setup works perfectly with DTS X. The difference is startling, truly immersive and atmospheric. Greater control of center speaker function and many other details make this a significant improvement over my last receiver, which I already loved.

Works great!
Bought this to replace a 12 year old receiver. This was so easy to install and the blue tooth works great. Very satisfied with it!

Defective Product - Lack of Support from Amazon & Onyo
I purchased this item just a couple of months ago. It was all fine for 2 months but now all of a sudden there is no VIDEO signal coming out from the AV receiver . I tried all the troubleshooting steps online and veriofieed if the issue is with HDMI or the projector . After all the research confirmed that the issue was with my OnKYO AVR.Contacted AMAZON Product support but they tried some very basic steps to troubleshoot but gave up in a heartbeat. Then i was referred to ONKYO but then it dint help either. I nearly paid $561 all inclusive for this item and it isnt working anymore and i dont know what to do. Contacted Amaon Support and they said i missed the bus and i have to deal with this issue now myself and onkyo if they cld help.So literally i poured my hard earned money down the drain . Really Disappointed with AMAZON/ONKYO>

Excellent product, needs more control options
Excellent quality sound unit. Use in my PC computer driven media center with audiophile audio.Puts 4k video on TV screen from SOME lessor resolution.Auto audio-video sync doesn't always work. Onkyo needs easy manual adjust option. In these days of miniaturization, surprised it's so large.
