The iolite vapor optimizer is used to control the amount of vapor in the vaporizer. The optimizer also maintains the vapor quality. It adds 3 extra heat pins in the heat chamber. Thus it increases surface area of contact with plant material. This is to be used only with models that feature the solid heat pin.

Helps heat up the product quicker
Seems to heat up the product quicker. Is a little pain if want to consume more than one setting. Be careful removing the optimizer due to this little bugger gets very hot! Will give you a nice burn when trying to remove the used med's to add another dose unless you let it cool down.You will figure out what works best for you. I prefer to put the product in first then insert the optimizer into the product then insert the whole mouth piece with the product & optimizer into the iolite works great.Cheers,edit 8/3/12**last 30-40 min before refilling****kind of hard removing the screen****love my iolite**

optimizer?
I have tried the Iolite both with, and without the Optimizer. The optimizer just rests in the heating chamber and falls out each time you empty it, and it's quite hot to handle. I also found that it seems to rescrict the airflow.Bottom line - save yourself some money, the Iolite works great just the way it is.

Not really needed
I bought the Optimizer and found it fits in loose in the chamber. Because it is loose, it keeps falling out when you open the Iolite to reload and/or clean. What more it slows the preheating and didn't seem to help anything I can discerne. Not worth the money in my opinion.

Not much of an improvement.
I put it in my iolite, on some things it helped a little, on others types it was not noticable.
