Symbolic Logic and the Game of Logic (Dover Math Games & Puzzles)

None of the diagrams the book refers to included
You shouldn't have to check to make sure the printing of a book contains the whole book, but this one missed the diagrams. Which makes the book nonsensical in the first sentence "First, let us suppose that the above left-hand Diagram..."I'd love to Lewis. I'd love to. But I can't.It also seems a little suspect the book contains no publishing information and has a spelling error in the two sentence summary on the back of it.

A mind opener
A local (accredited) university allows a course in Propositional Logic to replace algebra. There is even Propositional Calculus. I find algebra a lot simpler.Well, this critter is symbolic logic (Mathematical logic) is not the same but close enough. It is more English orientated however eventually moves into symbol tables. But still a toughie. Lewis Carroll gives a warning at the front of the book to not try to dive into the middle of the book or peak at the last chapter or you will be confused and toss out your opportunity to learn symbolic logic. Each chapter (I found page) builds on the previous.I am only a few chapters in at this time however I see the world of communication in a new light. For example:A person with no concept of electricity sees a switch and knows it is on and off and that is it. Others will look at the switch and see the end product of how the electricity operates form the physical wires to the A.C. concept. They may even follow the power to the source. Then the source to the materials. Then the materials to physics. Then to the quantum. Eventually from the quantum to us and back to turning on the switch. All of that is simpler than this book on logic gets around to. It is someone’s idea of logic.Amazingly, the mathematician Lewis Carroll could write about something so deep over a century ago and still be spot on. Of course, he does mention cities that use gas for lighting. So, enjoy, dig in, discuss with friends, and be thankful for this opportunity to expand your mind. What Carroll did not know:The less-than sign plus the equals sign (<=) is used for an approximation of the less-than-or-equal-to sign (≤).ASCII does not have a less-than-or-equal-to sign. But Unicode defines it at code point U+2264.In BASIC, Lisp-family languages, and C-family languages (including Java and C++), operator <= means "less than or equal to".

Interesting Non-Fiction by the author of Alice of Wonderland
Classic volume on symbolic logic by Charles Dodgson. Dodgson was an English writer, mathematician, and logician, who wrote his fiction under the the Lewis Carroll. While it is rather odd that the publishers of this volume choose to use Dodgson's pen name, Lewis Carroll, as the author of this volume, I suppose publishing his nonfiction works under his real name would have doomed this volume to obscurity. Most modern readers know him for his most famous fiction story, Alice in Wonderland, but Dodgson was also a very prolific writer in the field of mathematics, and produced nearly a dozen works under his real name.As a layman interested in logic, I found Dodgson's book on Symbolic Logic to be very instructive. Recommended.

Cheap and useless
A print out of the free Gutenberg version of the text. No diagrams! Pointless purchase. Do not recommend.

Not for Kindle!
This publication appears to be a sound lesson in the art of logical thinking. Unfortunately, however, it continually locks up my Kindle and makes the booklet extremely difficult to read and follow. I became frustrated after several attempts at page changing. It would either lock up the device or jump several pages at a time.

like a workbook.
No stories or explanations and such is pure symbolic logic. Not what I thought but I’ll read it and perhaps it can help me logic and stuff.

Kindle version is absolute garbage
"Fomatting" isn't even an applicable term. It's totally chaotic & incomprehensible & absolutely worthless.
