Two puzzling RPG adventures-one has dragons. .. the other has Mario! Two puzzling RPG adventures await you! Rescue Princess Peach from Bowser or defeat the evil group Paradox by battling enemies with the awesome power of orbs. Drag and match orbs, or chain together combos to deal massive blows to your enemies. Then bolster your forces with hundreds of unique monsters in this two-in-one game pack. In Puzzle & Dragons Super Mario Bros. Edition, you get to travel to different worlds as you assemble a team of Mushroom Kingdom baddies, like Goombas or Koopa Troopas, and recruit much-loved Mario characters, including Toad and Yoshi! Or in Puzzle & Dragons Z, battle the 5 powerful sky dragons to rebuild the world and customize your team with a plethora of different monsters. Allies gained in both games have the chance to evolve into more advanced forms and learn powerful new skills.

No Micro Transactions
This was surprisingly decent. For those who do not know, this is a sort of port of a free to play mobile game onto the 3DS. I say sort of port because quite a lot was changed. The biggest of which is the removal of all the micro-transactions and the nonsense that business model spawns. So things like timers, "premium" currency, and lottery machines are gone. That alone is a major improvement. However, on top of that they also added in a basic story line to the game. It isn't anything special, but it might be that little extra something to motivate you to continue with the game.As a bonus, there is a entirely separate second game included that is themed on the Mario universe. This one seems more basic though. The mechanics all seem easier to understand, and when you start up the game it recommends you start with this version if you're new to the Puzzle & Dragons gameplay. However, I've found that it ramps up in difficulty far more sharply than the regular game. Regardless, you can play either or and your progress is saved separately so there is no harm in trying either out.I'd say it's a good value. You get two games in one, and there are none of those awful micro-transaction shenanigans in it. The story is simplistic/boring, and it still retains its match-three gameplay you may have seen on your phone. It's a good time waster, best played in small doses at a time.

Charming but Repetitive
The game can be fun, but is much more repetitive than I'd hoped. In comparison to something like (any title in) the Puzzle Quest series, where your character setup and equipment makes an enormous difference, here every battle plays out pretty much the same way. "Spells" are usable too rarely to be truly transformative, so your party makeup makes almost no difference to gameplay. Opponents' actions don't change the game field so only very rarely do enemy abilities actually matter: either they kill you, or they don't. Occasionally you get "no-heart" levels as a twist, but these are the only significant variation I've encountered.I've been focused on Puzzle & Dragons Z because the RPG story, though thin, gives more of a feeling of accomplishment than playing through SMB levels that differ in little beyond graphics.Try the demo available from the 3DS store. If you like the demo enough that you can imagine playing through similar puzzle battles for tens of hours, you're likely to enjoy this game.

Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Edition is a version Super Mario Brothers where ...
Puzzle and Dragons Z is a Pokemon-like game where "dragon tamers" fight each other and other dragon monsters. You play as a dragon tamer "ranger." If you're familiar with Pokemon, you'll find this game very familiar but with a P&D twist!Puzzle and Dragons Super Mario Edition is a version Super Mario Brothers where combat is done through P&D orb battles. All the "dragons and monsters" in this game are Super Mario characters.I am a huge fan of both P&D and Nintendo games. I just got the game yesterday and so far I am enjoying both games immensely.

Puzzle game with Mario characters
This is a great game! It's more of a thinking game in the way of tetris or bejeweled, so you'll probably be disappointed if you buy it expecting a regular Mario experience. It is, however, perfect if you want a game that's fun to play where you can close your ds at a moments notice, then come back an hour later and not mess anything up or miss a beat. Oh, it also has two games - the regular one and the Mario version. The regular game is fun and plays like the Mario one with more of an RPG feel (I.e. Dragon Quest) and a slightly different linear setup. This one can also be put down quickly, but if I stay away too long I'm more likely to lose my place in the RPG scheme of things. Overall, both awesome games. The regular one is perfect for the semi casual player who doesn't mind a minimal commitment, and Mario is perfect for the player that wants absolutely no strings attached as he won't hold it against you if you don't play for an extended period.
