Good starting point for exposure to Qlik Sense
As stated in the headline, this is a solid starter book. One could go from beginner to intermediate in Qlik Sense knowledge with this book. The book progresses as one would expect, with a history and the basics of loading/profiling data. Nice to show both processes, especially for me as I never use the Data Manager. The data modeling section was probably the best section, for me. It reinforced concepts and I learned a thing or two. Good examples and easy to follow, probably the strength of the book. It lost a star when it gets to creating a sample application. There were two QVDs missing from the downloads, so a couple of objects would not show data. Since this app is used throughout, the same issue flowed. ***I posted an issue on Github about this***. One other improvement would have been to include the sample formulas so they could be cut/pasted. I did not have access to Google Big Query so I could not work through ODAG and maps. I just read those sections. If you get this book now, which I still recommend, be aware that some functionality has been changed from the version this book was created with. 4 out of 5 stars for me. I am looking forward to new offerings from the authors. They put together a good product.

Provides practically everything you need to know about Qlik Sense.
I was asked to review this book by the author, opinions and comments are my own. I do work for Qlik and do know the authors but I also am somewhat of an authority on the Qlik Sense product and create my own materials for the Qlik Community and Marketing purposes. I would not leave a review if I felt pressure to or if I did not believe in the content or the authors's ability to present it. First the authors of this book are well established Qlik users and know their stuff as they work with real customers and implemented real Qlik solutions. You can really tell by the organization, structure and topics that are laid out in this book - the authors wanted to share every aspect of their experiences with Qlik Sense; hence using "Hands-On" in the title. I like how the authors used many screen shots of what was being discussed including references to code and samples. I am a "learn-by-example" and visual individual - this approach fits perfectly with my style of learning. The book starts from the basics of getting started such as creating apps and working with data to the more advanced topics such as working with Qlik's Advanced Analytics Connectors, self-service approaches and mobile deployments. One thing I would have liked to see in this book perhaps was a few paragraphs on the data literacy movement as well as a chapter on various visualizations and when, how and why they should be used. However, that being a very minor point - the book is well documented and really does provide a hands-on approach to using and learning Qlik Sense. Well done!

Ironic it's black and white , graphics blurry
I was really disappointed that all the data visualization was in black and white... They referred to different colours in the text ( for example the red bar represents sales ) yet everything in black and white. Also found the text was clear but the graphs were blurry and difficult for me to read. Ironic.
