It was the exact fit for my old Kohler
As others have said, this is apparently the older style, which is what I actually needed for my nearly 20 year old shower.I don't see any leaking, and the knob now operates smoothly and precisely (as precise as a shower knob could be, I suppose).Ask me in 10 years if it's reliable. :D Actually, it'll probably be fine. It seemed to be as good as the original one was in terms of quality. Buying an original isn't really an option, since it's obsolete and only available from people with old stock who overcharge. I decided to take my chances on a new aftermarket part, and it paid off.I would recommend it.For anybody who is curious, I didn't have any leaking, and it did get hot and cold. The symptom was that the knob didn't turn as well (I didn't realize until I replaced it), and it was very difficult to get the temperature right. I would have to turn it all the way to the stop to get it hot, then turn it almost all the way back down to get it to a normal temperature. It was slowly getting worse over time, but got significantly worse a couple of weeks ago, which is what prompted me to look for a replacement. I wasn't sure if it was the valve or the PDU, so I did both. This part came with extra washers, so I picked the ones that matched the original (the smaller ones). It also came with a little wrench for adjusting the temperature stop. They also threw in a couple of squares of sandpaper, just in case, but I didn't do anything with the sandpaper.I did put some o-ring lube (from my swimming pool stuff) on the rubber washers, just in case. If nothing else, it helped hold them in place until I had everything back together.I was very happy that I didn't have to tear up the walls to get this job done.

Overall works - Fits a little worse - Need silicone grease on hand
A few months ago I replaced a Kohler shower valve with genuine Kohler parts. This time around I used the generic valve for less than 1/2 the price, mostly due to shipping speed. Thoughts...1) Overall the shower valve works again, without drips or leaks. I do feel the full cold and full hot does not flow as well as before. Since you're unlikely to use full cold or full hot for a tub or shower this isn't an issue.2) I did notice that this generic valve seems to take a little more force to insert into the valve body and won't stay in unless it is held down with one hand while tightening the retaining ring with another. I did not recall having to do this with the genuine Kohler valve.3) This valve comes with O-rings, but the O-rings fall off due to gravity. I can't remember if that happened on the genuine Kohler part. I used a little bit of silicone grease (for plumbing fixtures), and that held the O-rings in place while inserting.Overall this valve does what it was supposed to do. Seeing as I got 8-9 years out of the original ones if it wasn't for shipping speed I probably have paid the extra $40 for genuine Kohler... just for peace of mind.

Easy to install and just pay attention to detail
Very easy to install. Ensure shut off main water. If you're not that handy I would recommend take pictures from start of taking it apart and separate them, so that you can install the new one the same way how the old one was installed. Do comparing helps! And the good thing here there's no hot and cold side on the cartridge. The 2nd part for the on/off knob I would not turn anything until you put back the handle. By default it's set to off position. Very happy with this after market and save me a lot of money from breaking the wall and etc.
