Clean your new fountain pen
I am new to fountain pens and have really enjoyed the Hongdian bent nib I bought a few weeks ago, but I wanted a nib that was a little thinner, but not super fine. Enter this medium nib hongdian fountain pen.I started writing with it and fell in love with the medium nib, but, it started skipping on me while I was writing (ink flow stops in the middle of a stroke). I was upset because it just got it and it is brand new. I did some research on the Internet and found that washing out the nib and covertor will often clear out any dried ink (not an issue for me as I just loaded it) and debris (now that might be a problem since there might be some miniscule debris from manufacturing and transport).I cleaned it out with water and a mild soap, let it thoroughly air dry, reloaded it with ink, and PRESTO! My baby now works perfectly with no skipping.I think I will clean any new fountain pen I get as soon as I receive them. I do not know where is has been, even if it is brand new, there might be some particals in the feed that might cause some ink flow issues.Pen quality: beautifully made and has a good weight to it.Will I buy again: yep since this is my second of this hongdian fountain pen.To those who have reviewed this pen negatively due to ink flow, wash it out and the problem will likely go away.

Better value than other pens
I own several more expensive pens but this is the one I use the most. The textured grip on the barrel makes it easy to distinguish amongst other pens when reaching in a bag.It has the best cap click I have ever encountered. I actually thought maybe it was just the one I happened to buy, but when I bought another in a different color, they all have that feel: silky smooth with a firm audible click into place. So satisfying. My only complaint is very minor; the color coating on the ridge near the nib has chipped away a little. I'm pretty rough on my pens though and for the price, it's held up very well.Nibs - I have one fine nib for writing and a fude nib for sketching. They both behave on par with similarly priced nibs. The fude nib in particular is well suited to urban sketching and I can get a wide variety of lines. Writing with the nib flipped on its point produces a line similar to their fine point and flat on it's widest side lets me block in large areas of black quickly.

Surprisingly Smooth! 🖋️
I have many fountain pens, including Lamy Safaris, vintage Watermans, Parkers, and newer Sailors and Platinums. I saw this pen on a Reddit post & decided to try it.As I do with all new fountain pens (fp), I flushed this with distilled water. There was a slight blue tinge on the 1st flush (normal with manufacturing dip testing for quality assurance ). Once dried, I filled it with iroshizuku syo-ro ink.It flowed beautifully from the start. For a <EF> nib, it’s very smooth, although I use Clarireontaine paper regularly. This <EF> is more consistent with a Japanese < F/M> imo. After letting it sit for a week unused, it wrote just as smoothly without skipping or hard stops.I don't post the cap as I have smaller hands. The weight and size are balanced in my hand. It feels heavier than many of my pens, but it is not uncomfortable - even after long writing sessions. This would be a great starter pen, but I plan to rotate mine among my daily users - Lamy 2000, Platinum 3776, and Lamy Safari.A final note to those new to fountain pens - you need only light pressure. Different than a ballpoint pen.

Watch what in you pair it with in the long knife nib, the wetter the better.
Got it with the Long Knife nib. Be careful about what ink you pair with this nib, it will need to be a wetter ink to write properly. I am using Monteverde Key Lime Pie in it at present and it work well. Some of the dryer inks will cause ink flow problems with this nib. Overall, I really like the pen. My wife has the Rainbow edition with a fine nib and that writes well with most inks.

Excellent for those new to fountain pens and those used to using them.
Definitely like these pens. I've always preferred fountain pens because, even if you run out of ink cartridges, you can use them as a dip pen. I've a friend who makes homemade ink and I've used, more than once, fountain pens like this none with it and they've always worked beautifully.I bought two of these. One for me, one for my younger brother. And while I'm quite used to writing with fountain pens, he is not. He's finding that it works very well for him. I especially like the fact the nib is a very fine tip, so it writes very smoothly with the ink flowing neatly without blotting or leaking. That is one problem I tend to have with many fountain pens, especially the larger, more decorative, ones with skulls and such. I like those, too, but they often leak.I will be getting more of these, and a replacement for another pen I lost as well.I definitely recommend these.

Great buy!
This pen is a steal at the price it sells for. I've had zero problems with ink flow or hard starts. It writes smooth and keeps up with my horrendously fast signature without skipping which impressed me quite a bit.. the included converter works perfect and is easy to maintain.Balance is good, as I like heavier pens. This one isn't heavy per say, but it is solid. The pen doesn't feel too thin or too thick when writing which I like. Be advised though, I've seen where people have said it take "international standard" cartridges. It actually takes 3.4mm ink cartridges which are also found on Amazon if need be.
