~~~ WARNING~~~
I have been a music enthusiast since I was a tyke and these speakers sound INCREDIBLE 4 the first month u use them. Then, there is an internal rattle that u can not get 2 and it is overwhelming 2 the point u do not wanna listen 2 music. I got my first set and a month later the rattle,,,, I sent that set back for a fee, Logitech replaced them,, sounded great 4 about a month,, then the rattle again. I would love 2 be able 2 replace this sub with a quality one. While it works this thing is great. But after 2 of them,,, I know it will stop working not long after u have it. I would advise against these.
Not really pleased...
Don't get excited when you purchase these. Most people purchases this pair of speakers in hopes that it's going to sound like Kurt Cobain is still alive and actually talking to you.But the truth is, it is just an entry level set of speakers. I bought these, and the bass is just too boomy. I'm not an audiophile, but I know when things sound terrible. They did.As for the satellites, if you get too close to them, you hear a choppy wave sound. It turned me off from them.I recommend that if you are going to be spending between twenty to forty dollars on a pair of entry level speakers that you look into Creative.
Wonderful performance
Great speakers for the average home user. They get plenty loud for gaming and sound better than my stereo for playing music. Bass is adjustable but would have liked to see a headphone jack. I had a SB16 sound card and when the M3D turned on the effect was outstanding, sounded like a surround system. With a SB live card ( 4 channel) the M3D had no effect and I now leave it turned off. M3D is not really a feature w/ a higher end sound card. overall I am very pleased and they kick the ____ out of the 2 (OEM) speakers I was using.
Impressive-Great Bass! and Sleek!
I was headed for Altec Lansing and my wife and I listened to the Logitech Z-340 [2.1] and were blown away- I then noticed the Z-540...and couldn't resist. The sound is just superb- My wife and I are extremely pleased with these sleek looking deep bass and rich sounding 4.1 set-up-
Great for Years, But Fails Catastrophically In the End
I know it's a bit ridiculous to be reviewing speakers that aren't even made any more (that I know of) but I'd like to throw in my opinion anyway. I've had a lot of experiences, both good and bad, with Logitech products. I've had mice and keyboards die on me within a year, headphones that are still going strong, and then there are these speakers. For the price at the time, they were beyond high quality, approaching implausible. Powerful 4.1 speaker systems are almost unheard of at under $100, and I got these on sale for $50 about 6 years ago or so. For a good while they lasted quite well, and I'm sure that part of the problem is that I've been using only the front two speakers for half the lifespan of them. Anyway, on to what's happened to them. First, the back speakers were getting a little crappy and I never had a place to put them, since they don't come with any kind of stands other than the little feet. Later, about 2 years ago, I started having issues with the larger digital type cable in the subwoofer. It tends to come loose easily and needs to be shoved back in almost nightly, or at least, it did until last night. The quality started to fade and the speakers had been letting out an electrical hum any time they were on, regardless of what they were connected to. I figure I can attribute this to not having the back speakers plugged in, though it worked fine without them for well over a year. But last night, they just up and quit working. They didn't blow, the power just died on them. I'm guessing the amplifier built into the sub or the right speaker crapped out. Regardless, I'm going to be getting a 2.1 system next time, but I'll never get the same quality of sound that I got out of these, that's for sure. If you can get 'em new and want to use the rear speakers, they're worth the price.
Well, I guess it all depends on how you look at it...
I recently purchased this Logitech Z540 5-Piece Computer Speaker set for my PC, and I must say I'm very impartial towards them. Figuring that this package could provide crisp and clean surround sound was a wrong assumption. I found that the sound came out very hollow, and the farther away I got from them the more the quality went down, until it just sounded plain out flat. My 3 piece Altec Lansing that came standard with my PC turned out to have better sound quality after all, so I promptly hooked them back up.However, if you are upgrading from a low end speaker system, and don't feel like breaking the hundred dollar mark, then these Logitech's are the way to go. But, if you prefer quality, and have the money to spend, don't keep Logitech's Z540 5-Piece speakers in mind, you're better off spending more on Aletc Lansings.
Best bang for the buck
I like these speakers alot. They are pretty loud and clear as can be. Nowhere near as good as the z560's but for the price they are unbeatable.
