Best Vacuum, and Best Value!
The Oreck Vacuum is the best there is! This purchase is my 4th one. My first one was 25 years ago, and it would still be running if the kids had not vacuumed toys with it while cleaning their rooms. I think except for the wider XL21, and the newest models with a Dyson-style swivel hinge, which I would not want, that all the Orecks are basically the same great design and performance. The home models have headlights, two speeds, and shorter power cords. The commercial models have one speed, low profile for getting under furniture, and much longer and better power cords. My Berber carpet is 20 years old. I vacuum it daily. I see some aging, but people still comment that the carpet looks like new! The Orecks are noisy with the 6500 rpm brush-roller speed. The speed and quality of the brush-rollers are key to its excellent cleaning performance. I read about all vacuums before buying Oreck #4. They all indicate they are loud. I wear soft foam earplugs when doing many household chores, including vacuuming. The coffee grinder, the blender, the lawn mower, and several of my carpentry and auto tools are way louder than the Oreck. I wear ear plugs for all of those noisy tools. But back to the Oreck, to me, it's performance that counts, and I wouldn't buy anything other than an Oreck! This new Oreck is the lowest price I have seen at $179 on Amazon. I paid $325 + tax for it's red predecessor at a vacuum store. The two vacuums are identical except for color!!! My Oreck's #2 and #3 are still like new with maintenance of the belt and brush roller (very inexpensive parts on Amazon, three times the cost in a vacuum store). I gave them to my now adult children as they moved to college apartments. Now about the filter bags. Oreck makes the best filter bags made. The commercial bags do a good job, but my daughter has asthma, and I prefer the Oreck hypo-allergenic bags. They are referred to as HEPA by some. The commercial bags are good, they are blue, and less expensive. The hypo-allergenic filter bags are greenish, and they have layers of filter media in the replaceable filter bag. I think the hypo-allergenic bags are the greatest. Oreck commercial vacuums take bags "without filter docks". Those "docks" where the filter bag attaches are a special contraption that showed up on a few home models. This commercial vacuum has a regular filter connection port, and does not have a "dock" for the filter attachment. The commercial vacuum has the traditional, non-docking, filter connection port that the non-docking filter bag snaps onto. The filter bags seal to the port with a rubber-elastic seal that does not leak! For the commercial vacuum, I recommend green hypo-allergenic filter bags, and you need the traditional bags, not the bags that are designed for a "dock" contraption. CAUTION NOTE. This is a 5-star product, without any doubt. Read the astonishing and excellent reviews! I'm not the only Oreck enthusiast! HOWEVER it is disappointing to me that the blue Oreck in the picture is different than the actual vacuum I received. Mine has a gray bag, with the broad white diagonal stripe across the bag with "Oreck Commercial" emblazoned on the banner. The one in the picture is much nicer looking. My disappointment is not in the vacuum quality or performance. My disappointment is that I have to believe the seller knows the difference between the pictured vacuum and the one he is providing, and I suspect the one in the picture is a newer model than one I received, but I'm not sure. I expect the sellers to provide what they show. And I suspect they know exactly that they are picturing something different than they are providing. With that said, this Oreck is OUTSTANDING, and this is the lowest price I have seen on this vacuum. It cleans like a miracle, and I am VERY PLEASED! The long cord on the commercial vacuum is worth a lot to me. I plug it once by the stairway, and do the whole house without moving the cord. It also has soft wheels which are quieter on the hard floors than older models. The commercial cord is bigger around and the vacuum will not go over it and wrap it up in the motor like some of the smaller non-commercial cords. I also like the new style non-marring bumpers that really don't mark walls or furniture that get bumped. IT'S A GREAT VACUUM!

Astounding machine!
I just received the Oreck Commercial XL Upright Corded Vacuum Cleaner, Bagged Professional Commercial Pro and I'm thrilled. It unpacked and was assembled in less that 20 minutes. It is a no frills vacuum but it is so light that it virtually floats.Listen, I'm 67 and I've had Rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia for 20 yrs. In the last 10, vacuuming and sweeping have become nearly impossible. I used to sweep and vacuum my whole house in less than an hour but now it can take days to do the whole house. My back, neck, arms, and hips are in agony pushing around the Hoover I use. I saw this and the reviews and decided it was worth the actual bargain price. If you have mobility or pain issues, this might be a good choice for you.I used it today and didn't have to sit down after I did one room. It was effortless. It went from carpet to floor easily and picked up the pine pellet cat litter that had been dropped. The carpet looked as good as it does with the larger heavier machine.I really love it and it is small enough I don't have to store it in a closet but can put it next to the washing machine in the laundry room. I truly hope it continues to live up to what I saw with the first use. There are no attachments. I to just attach the handle and go. Even came with one bag, which is much larger than my Hoover bags. With 3 cats, I have to vacuum a few times a week but have not been able to do that. So, I need an effective machine. This seemed to do the job. Is it as good as my Hoover? I haven't done a comparison because I have to have someone else use it. It is almost impossible for me now. It will be relegated to the garage until I think I need it.I plan on buying the hand held machine next so I have the versatility of the attachments.

AWESOME VACUUM. *GREAT* for pet hair, don't listen to the people who say its not good for pet hair.
So I bought this vacuum cleaner as a replacement for a Shark Professional Lift Away canister vaccum. The shark had some issues, namely:1. It had an attachment tube through which all the suction power at some point went. This tube was made of a material that kept cracking and we had to duct tape it. In the end it was more tape than tube and this led to a loss of suction.2. I was absolutely SICK of emptying the canister and digging out pet hair and inhaling the dust and cleaning the filter etc. It was nasty. My wife and I made a deal for the housework. She would do the downstairs and I the upstairs. Since the upstairs is 100% frize carpet, the vacuum quickly became a point of contention for me.I did my research (A LOT OF IT) and came to Oreck. I didn't feel like shelling out 500+ dollars for one of the super top of the line home versions that are aesthetically pleasing and instead opted to pocket the cash and buy this workhorse for 150 bucks. And I am IMPRESSED.We have 3 dogs and a cat. The dogs are a Siberian Husky, a German Shepard, and a St. Bernard. Needless to say we a have a LOT of pet hair. Some reviewers have mentioned that they didn't think the oreck was effective for this. These people are lying to you. Our carpets are now amazingly clean. This thing sucks up debris and pet hair like nothing I've ever seen. Its a BEAST. And its lightweight. The bags hold a LOT and when its time to change them out you just pull em, toss em and replace em.They are cheap. I've been through 2 in a month and got a 25 pack for like 15 bucks. Get the scent tabs. You can really smell them at first, after the first couple of days you cant smell anything, which hopefully is the point. Some people have mentioned a burning rubber smell when they started using the vaccuum. I noticed this too, but I think it is just a burn in phenomenon as it quickly went away. The replacement and maintenance parts (belt/roller) are both on amazon for under 10 bucks. I expect to change the belts and rollers on occasion and have this vacuum for a decade. It doesn't have any attachments. it just cleans the carpets and floors superbly well. We've used it downstairs on wood and rugs and tile with no issues and it has pulled up loose pet hair and cat litter with no problems.Give it a go. Best vacuum I've ever owned. See pictures for pet hair effectiveness.
