Very impressive all round
I decided to cat6 my house and bought this router as it is an established brand and PoE is important. Set up was super easy, the data rates are excellent for our needs and the PoE works fine for external wireless access points. I can't fault it.

Happy, but a learning curve for newbies!
There is a lot of complaints about needing to sign up to use the full features of this product, but this is a sign of the times with all major manufactures doing a similar thing. I recommend you view it as a “warranty registration” because it has a similar impact on product usage (i.e. none). You can run this behind a firewall or as part of an isolated network without issue or hinderance. So - the product??I’ll admit this is my first managed switch & it has more features than I know what to do with, but it works well and the GUI is both helpful and responsive.I’ll remind any potential buyer that there is a model with 10 RJ45s, opposed to the one i bought - but the 2 SFP ports give options to upgrade to fibre (which will cost about £20).Out of the box, its a plug and play switch. Although as a straight 8 port switch, its rather costly. That said it’s far more than that; assuming you know (of a willing to learn) how to get the most from it.Regards power usage - there are options to turn off the POE, and also specific ports, as well as auto-enable/disable ports. Although my initial investigation of these option didn’t work as expected (i blame myself, and have since downloaded the manual - the online help isn’t great!)Hope this helps somebody....

Unreliable device buy something else
Bought this to replace my unmanaged Netgear switch which is now 5 years old and started failing. This one failed within 6 months - it stops working once or twice a day. I work from home and the switch isnt near my office. Ive given up and reverted to the old switch while I buy a new one from TP Link - cheaper and more reliable Im told in the forums

Very good
Works very well, doesn’t get hot under load, GUI very easy to use and setup VLANs and other port configurations. PoE works very well and the access point powered from this has never had a dropout.

Great for work or home
I use these at work so knew they would be good for home use combined with ubiquiti APs I now have solid WiFi signal everywhere and 100mb down and 10mb upload ( internet speeds are dictated by your router ) These switches used with cat5e patch cables make for a solid home upgrade

This v3 model has PoE+
Flexible switch and this v3 model has the PoE+ I needed for a UniFi LR6 AP. An earlier v1 model of this switch that I have wouldn't supply enough power.

Registration required to use
You have to register and give personal details to Netgear in order to use most of the functions advertised. They should have made this known in the advert.
