Start It, Build It, Grow It: The Contractor's Guide to Success

I have read a lot of self help and how to books but never one as poignant and down-to-earth as this one! Refreshingly untypical! Yes, the facts we need to learn on how to start and maintain a business are clear and concise but peppered with personal stories, some even devastating, both vulnerable and inspiring, that draw me in to read this book like a suspenseful novel would. A Page turner. This author makes me feel like I can start my own business and succeed and i feel like he will be there cheering me on during the whole journey. I am a consulting accountant for small contracting companies which is why I wanted to check this book out. Boy, will it help my clients in a big way. I am excited to pass this jewel of a find on to all my clients. I also recommend it to anybody just starting out, not just contractor types. There are lots of wise ideas and tried and true philosophies that everyone should take into their new businesses if they want to be a success! The author can help you avoid all the pitfalls. A must read. Happy reading.

Randy knocks it out of the park! This is a must read for anyone thinking about starting a contracting company or any business for that matter. Even for veteran business people there are so many nuggets to help you improve your existing company as well!!!

This is an excellent read for any who owns or is looking to get into the Construction industry. Randy is a wealth of knowledge.

Starting and maintaining any business is, at best , difficult. Contractors have a 85% failure rate in the first 5 years and it goes to 90% in 10 years. Randy's blueprint for success is a valuable tool that any aspiring contractor should purchase. Often times contractors either come from the field doing the actual work, or the sales end of things. Neither route fully prepares you for the challenges of actually owning and running a business.This book will help to fill in the gaps.

I thought the book was a good read. The book takes about 1 hour or so to finish. I would of liked to see more on marketing and generating leads when you first start your business and beyond.

I am a project manager at Randy’s roofing company, so I know him personally. I am actually a tougher critic BECAUSE I know the author and he’s technically my boss! Well I’m impressed with this book. The concepts Randy lays out are indispensable. And I can attest this guy actually backs up what he writes. Read this book whether you’re in business or not. The wisdom it contains applies both to dealing with people and achieving your goals, whatever they may be.

The book actually hits it’s target audience perfectly. It is brief and not full of unhelpful antidotes that neither inspire or inform. It is honest. Gives the experience of the author and actually shares the difficulty of achieving success. As the sub-title suggests, it guides. I believe the steps can be duplicated and help contractors pivot their business from mediocre to great. In my view this will become the definitive book in it’s genre.

This book was a great read. I have a lot of experience in this industry and agree with Randy's guide to success. I especially would focus on the section about how to structure your sales-pitch. There are some very specific suggestions, backed up by industry proven results, that I had never heard of before. I strongly recommend that you not only buy this book, but read it twice, take notes, and stick to the script.

A great read with insightful thoughts on starting a roofing business
