Nothing beats having warm water available in your barn in frigid winter
I keep this API 16 gallon bucket filled & plugged in inside an empty barn stall in winter to help with moistening grain for feeding horses or adding to cold water in smaller buckets to drink in frigid weather. I'm limited to the amount of electricity available in my situation & cannot have a deicer in the trough. This size is perfect to get things done that require benefits of adding warm water. The bucket is heavy duty, the element connection is reliable & heats up when temps fall below 32 degrees. I've had this bucket for 3 winter seasons & can vouch for it as a dependable, welcoming convenience to make life easier around livestock during harsh New England winters.

Exposed heat coils
Different bucket sent-unsafeThe blue bucket manufactured by API shown is excellent and I have used it with my horses for years. Its heated element is under the bucket, and the cord is surrounded by coiled wire, so that they can't chew through it. The bucket I RECEIVED is green, and the heating elements are inside the bucket and exposed. They are partially covered by plastic, and a much greater risk for electric shock to your animals. It is a much cheaper design, and less safe. I am returning it.

Very durable.
Works great. Have had for over two years and still going strong. No fading in the weather.Update: Jan 2022Received a question through Amazon about this bucket so I thought I would update my original review...I have now had this bucket for just under six years and have been using it non stop for watering my small flock of six sheep. One of my sheep in particular loves to destroy things. He will jump and stomp until nothing is left. He has destroyed other waterers and feed buckets, fence lines and the side wall of his sheep shed. Try as he might, he cannot seem to hurt this heated watering bucket. I have had it out by the water pump riser since the day it arrived back in 2016. I fill it every other day but only plug it in in the winter. It gets down below zero degrees F where I live and this waterer just keeps working keeping the water fluid. I have had the water freeze in the bucket when the power line to the bucket goes out, but the ice has never caused any damage to the bucket.Bottom line, if you have animals you need to keep watered out side in the cold, this bucket is for you!

Very happy with product
Very happy with this product. I was in a store about to buy a different one when an employee actually whispered to me that I should look for this exact bucket elsewhere. They said they have the same one and it’s so much easier to clean because of the heating element being under the bucket… And they said it’s also very durable even when they dropped it down their loft stairs. So I took their advice and called around and ultimately found it on Amazon. It’s so true what they said. I love that the heating element isn’t just under a slotted covering that would be a pain to clean. And the water is a perfect temperature all the time. The directions say to not use an extension cord but honestly I am. One of those orange ones rated for outdoors. Have had no issues so far. Also someone wrote a review that you have to take the bottom off to get the cord out. That was not my experience. It took a little finagling but you can pull the cord out.

-45 windchills and it was perfect in the barn
I have 7 head of older horses that stay inside during the worst storms possible in SD. This little tub worked slick for watering every horse. No frozen buckets and everyone was happy!

Best bucket!
I love this bucket! After years of using the green ones with the heating element on the floor of the bucket under the removable grate, I can't express how much easier it is to clean this bucket, which has the heating element inside the plastic. I probably should have stored it over the summer, but I got lazy ... Happy to report it still works great! I used to think of heated buckets like Christmas tree lights - every season you plug them in and throw out the ones that don't work - but I think these are really durable. I'm ordering another today to replace a working green one - even the horses seem to prefer it.

IT WORKS!
They shipped this less expensive product which was not the one ordered without advising me. However, it was shipped immediately and helped avoid a major issue with several horses facing unforecasted below freezing MT weather. When advised their Customer Service apologized and offered a significant discount. 4 Stars due to Customer Service. Have used this brand before and they are long lasting but debris gathers under the heater protection grid and is difficult to remove.
