Works as advertised.
I use this for sending one Toslink source (first a Startech BT2A Bluetooth receiver, then moved to a Sony DVD player) to both a Yamaha AV receiver and separate DAC (TEC TC-7510) feeding my headphone amp. I haven't tried it in reverse, to share one input between two sources, but since it's a purely passive device that may work, so long as only one source is powered on at a time.As with any passive splitter, the amount of light to the downstream components is at best halved, and Toslink's "fat light pipe" design is kind of marginal to begin with (compared to real communications-grade fiber) so try to keep cable lengths as short as possible, and avoid sharp bends. Two three-foot cables worked for me - actually one of the two signals was intermittent at first, but that turned out to be some dust in one of the connectors, and cleared up after cleaning.Everything is made of cheap-feeling plastic, but of course the light doesn't care, and connections fit snugly.

WORKS GREAT..
WORKS GREAT ...READ ALL THE WAY IF YOU ARE HAVING ISSUES !!! HI all I didn't read the reviews before I bought this thing . Once I got the product I was angry cause the male end would not fit in my Tvs optical port .So I started reading reviews and saw that others had had the same issue . I almost threw it in the trash. THEN I PULLED THE LITTLE YELLOW PROTECTIVE TIP OFF AND IT FIT JUST FINE .. I felt like a idiot .This product is a great inexpensiveness . Maybe needs instuctions for a dumby like me ....Ps others in this feed my have a different problem mine was all my fault

It worked just fine at first for weeks (with all cables and splitter quite sturdy in the connections as well, even) so I thought it was great. Recently though, I had adjusted something and had to barely move it for a moment (as in, gently lifted up what it was connected to by mere inches and put it back down), and upon turning some speakers on today, it immediately created tons of static noise, and wouldn't work with certain sound options at all anymore no matter how I tried to gently move the cable around to try and remedy the issue. The actual cables worked fine individually without being plugged into the splitter, but when plugged back in to test just to be sure, the static noise came right back with no improvements. Darn.

Great sound quality
I bought this to split audio to 2 of my 7.2 surround sound wireless headsets that we use at night time so that we don't wake up the kids at night while watching our favorite shows. The audio always came in clear and sound quality never degraded while using this splitter for our headsets.Just make sure the techie of the house installs this because the wife might think its a Q tip for her nose and your sound quality might sound like a cat in heat.

Design flaw?
This splitter works properly for my use. (Splitting an audio signal from a tv to go to a soundbar setup and second to a home theater receiver). The only problem is the same as others have descibed. The male end connector does not lock into position so any movement of optical cables will like disconnect the cable, thus leading to no sound.
