Should this device sit on the strings only or make contact with the strings and the bridge?

We suggest that you place the device on the strings, and then snug it up as closely to the bridge as you can. It can be placed simply on the strings alone of course, but snugging it up to the bridge will allow for a better transfer of the subsonic acoustical vibrations into the body of the instrument. Question 2

Maybe a stupid question but what about using this on solid body electrics?  I have heard the same theory applies to a solid body guitar.

I don't own a solid body and I don't use ToneRite any more.  Dana Bourgeois doubts it has any good effect on a top, as the vibration is all on one frequency.  That was in a column he wrote for Acoustic Guitar, I think.

How does it work?

Hi there. Simply place it on top of the strings as close to the bridge as possible. Then turn the intensity dial up to the max setting and leave it working for 7 days. On the 8th day lower the intensity to about 50% and leave running again for another week. This mixed intensity treatment allows the ToneRite to focus on all the frequencies your instrument can reproduce, as well as increasing its dynamic range and harmonic complexity in the process. This recommended 2-week initial treatment works with most guitars but if you send us specific details about your instrument, we can help you determine what is the ideal time you should use the ToneRite during the initial treatment. Things like tonewood density, bracing patterns, and overall size and weight, can bump up that initial treatment significantly. We wouldn't recommend the same amount of time for a ukulele and an upright bass for example :).
