Controls the pump
This item appears/feels sturdy, and works great. The only reason I gave this controller 4 stars, is because I think it should have more programmable timers. For me 8 speed presets is overkill once you've gotten to experiment with the pump. Especially because you can alter the existing 4 panel presets with just the arrow buttons as its running. I would trade the 4 nested "menu based" speed presets, for 2 more timers. But really, it seems to me that with a simple little device like this, Zodiac/Jandy could just add 2 more timers to the firmware.Because you can simply enable/disable the timers, you could have different schedules for different seasons/situations, and simply turn them on or off without the hassle of reprogramming the start/stop times. The buttons require a firm press to activate. I'm guessing that it has internal water proofing solutions for the button openings, and that would be why. This only becomes challenging when you're defining a custom name for a speed preset, and you have to scroll though the lengthy character set.On a different note: Following the good advice of a previous reviewer, I found this box to mount it in: Arlington EB0708-1 Electronic Equipment Enclosure Box, 7" x 8" x 3.5", Non-Metallic, 1-Pack In addition to the obvious benefit of preventing weather/sun damage, I plan to mount the box rotated 90 degrees CW from the orientation in the item picture. That way the lid will create a natural sunshade when its open. LCDs are difficult to read in direct sun. As long as the box dimensions are correct, it will fit that way. I ordered the box a few days ago, but Amazon hasn't shipped it yet, so we shall see.

no warranty, they doesn't stand behind their product
first this is a painful controller as it has no battery backup and loose configuration everytime you loose power. then it failed, I replaced with the new IQPUMP01 and failed after a week, good idea but bad HW. they would not trouble shoot it or replace it they want me to pay a technician to check the 4 screws before doing anything. It will be cheaper to by a new one and cross finger that this one will last a bit more.the issue with the JEP2.0 pump is that there is no way to run the pump without the mandatory "optional" controller. I guess water will get green soon time to get the new one :(Don't buy Jandy product, they require to pay someone coming to check. for me I have the controller died, they want me to pay someone to check 4 screws before even doing anything. Not to mentioned that I waited 2 hours before getting an useless technician on the phone.I have a master in electronics and I think I know how to do initial trouble shooting.I will never buy again a Jandy product.

Easy installation
Worked exactly as advertised. Extremely easy to install, had it up and running in less than 20 min. The variable speed function is a definite energy saver. I saved at least $200 purchasing and installing myself

Works like a champ
Purchased this controller to replace a time clock that controlled a Jandy pump. I would recommend installing this in an Nema 3 box so no direct sunlight hits the display.

Horrible controller
My pool installer selected this and the Jandy 2.7 variable speed pump, not bought through Amazon, but my pool company. I love the pump, but the controller is horrible to use (I'm sure it functions once set up). I've read the instructions multiple times. I've watched videos on youtube. All i've been trying to do is set two speeds, one when my Polaris sweeper is cleaning, and that requires a higher RPM, and then a lower speed for the filtration to save energy. My installer said he set it to do this, but it has run at 3200 rpm the whole time. So I thought, how hard can it be to change the settings. I had read warnings online that the JEP was difficult to use, and thought "yeah, right". Read the instruction manual, and well, it is horrible. I'm not someone who ever struggles reading the instruction manual, but the labelling from Jandy is just not clear. I'm sure the thing works once you figure it out, but for something as simple as programming two different start and stop times at two different speeds should be pretty straight forward for a variable speed pump. That's the point of a VSP, you want to sit different speeds for different functions so you can save energy vs a single speed pump. This controller makes that process too complicated.

A Pool Professional's Favorite Controller.
I install these professionally, and I am in a solid bromance with this controller. While variable speed pumps are the absolute best way to circulate your pool, interfacing them with other devices usually requires expensive automation systems, many of which run into the thousands of dollars.Booster pumps are especially problematic, since these devices NEED to know when the main circulation pump is operating at a flow sufficient to provide pressure to prime it.Jandy is the only manufacturer that provides a controller as versatile as the Jep-r. As well as the two time clocks and ample egg timers, the controller provides a remote port, which allows you to remotely activate 4 speeds with a simple toggle switch.A normally closed fireman's switch in a booster pump Intermatic t-104 will let these two pumps talk to each other. This is a common configurative in the dozens of these systems I have installed. This feature also allows for speed assignment for up to 4 features. I have, for instance, set this controller up so that when the client turns on his spa heater, the pump runs up to a high speed for the spa jets.It really is a flexible and versatile controller that is easy to operate, at a price point nearly a thousand dollars less that the next viable variable speed pump controller.Just remember, it only operates Jandy variable speed pumps.
