The square itself is either aluminum or steel. There are 2 rare earth magnets on the bottom.

Within what tolerance is this square?

The correct way to check it, is with a 1-2-3 block and a feeler gauge. 1-2-3 blocks are precision ground to size and sqaure. Hold the block on the in side of the square and hold it up to the light. If you see any cracks of light use the feeler gauge to measure it. If you don`t see any light then you`re dead nuts square. Trust me, I`m a Machinist.

When the micro square is placed on a flat surface, the base sits flat on the surface, and the vertical scale starts from the top edge of the base. This allows for precise measurement and marking of angles and perpendicular lines.

What are the specified dimensions (length x width) of this magnetic square?

The blade is right at 4" in length on the outside, this is measuring from the flat of the base to the tip of the blade, on the other side of the square, it looks to be in metric but scaling it out with a set of calipers, it is not very accurate so I don't really think it is in metric. The magnets are very strong and holds really well.
