Worth every penny, much smaller than it appears in the picture.
This alarm was incredible. It is very well made. Literally 5 drops of water I used to test it were enough to make the alarm go, I bet it is even less drops with urine. The alarm and vibration combined were enough to wake my daughter almost every time.It clips on my daughters underwear, and when the material is wet, the gold plated clip can conduct through the material that had been insulating the circuit. Proper placement is important, but I don't think we had even one incident when it failed. Obviously, YMMV, but my daughter only really wet once in the first month, and was upset until I explained to her the alarm is helping her body practice recognizing that she has to go. The alarm didn't even go off 1/3 of the nights, and my daughter would wake up and go on her own. The nights the alarm did go off, her underwear were barely wet enough to bother changing, and probably would not have been if the device didn't need to be hooked back up. It really worked quickly for her. We could not be happier. She was wetting every night before we bought it, I bet the wash bill has about about paid for this device already!UPDATE:My daughter has been dry for months without wearing this anymore. She is so proud of herself, and has improved her self confidence. She went on her first sleepover with school friends with no embarrassment. This would not have been possible without this device. I don't think I have ever bought another item that made me happier... you could probably verify this by my other reviews.* I do feel it is appropriate to note that the 8 varying alarms are not selectable, so it is a different alarm each time, not whichever one you pick. I was concerned that she would sleep through some of them, but she never did.

A bedwetting alarm..... that's not waterproof?!!!
The alarm box isn't waterproof- go figure! My 10 year old child is a very heavy wetter at night. As in, soaking completely through two disposable nighttime pants and still wetting the bed! We need to stop this bedwetting, so I researched and found that this product seemed to fit our need and others with heavy sleepers had success ultimately, so I took a deep breath and ordered it. It wasn't cheap, and I didn't get any discounts for trying it out, either! My electrician husband took one look at it and thought I should send it back before even trying it because it looked so cheaply made. In fact, he said it looked like a toy that you could buy at the Dollar Tree for $1! I was desperate, though, and we tried it. After the 10th night (all but 1 night he wet, we got up and helped him go to the bathroom the rest of the way and change his pj's and dry blankets), it quit working. He doesn't wear a shirt to bed, so he sets the alarm on the pillow by his head. And sometimes he tosses and turns, and it ends up in the wet blankets when he sits up. I set the non-working alarm aside with the clip closed (contacts touching), and during the day it went off (presumably, it had gotten wet, shorted out, then dried out and started working again). We tried it again for another couple of nights, and it only worked intermittently. Sometimes the alarm would go off, and sometimes not.I emailed the company, and they called me. I was informed that the alarm box isn't waterproof and had been flooded and wasn't covered under warranty because of that! Even if my child had clipped this to a shirt, the sheer volume of urine is enough that it would have gotten wet at least once during this time anyway! I was told by the company that it cannot get any moisture in the alarm box at all. Quite insistently, as a matter of fact. I conveyed my severe irritation to the man from customer service and told him that honestly, I didn't do anything wrong. It simply isn't a good design for a child with heavy wetting issues. So- Malem's solution for me- he offered to issue a refund, which I accepted. He emailed me return info. Guess what? Not only do I have to pay shipping to return this item, they won't refund my card (so that I can look for another product) until they receive the original alarm.I think I'm going to take advantage of Amazon's amazing customer service instead and see if they can give me a refund sooner AND pay for my return shipping, since I wouldn't have ordered this product if I had know that it wasn't waterproof!

Great product! Came in right on time
Great product! Came in right on time!I read so many reviews from so many different alarms before buying this one. I read both, good and bad comments from all, so I took a leap of faith and went ahead to buy the Malem for two reasons: better reviews and features. Some reviews said it was made of cheap plastic. It's not. It's a good quality product. We wanted to see how it worked, so my son and I tested it with a drop of water first. The alarm works! Make sure you explain your child how it works and how to turn it off before he/she uses it. If he/she just presses the button, the alarm will still sound. They have to get up and take it off their underwear first; then they can press the button for the alarm to stop. The idea is that your child gets up and empties his/her bladder in the toilet instead of ignoring the alarm and finishing their business in bed.As many other reviews said, you have to do your job as a parent. Most kids with this problem are deep sleepers, and chances are they won't hear the alarm. Some might be tempted to turn it off, ignore it, and finish peeing where they started since it's more comfortable to stay in bed than to get up. You need to get up, and give them the support they need. It's also very important to fill up the progress chart with them. Encourage them! Give them small rewards and praise words when they wake up dry.Don't worry about buying an alarm with a second alarm for your room. The sound is loud (and annoying) enough. You'll hear it!!In my case, my son is 14, and this problem was really affecting him. He was going on a trip with friends, so we bought this alarm and started using it the day it arrived. I don't know if it was because he was too self conscious about the alarm, but he woke up dry after the first night. The alarm went off the second night, but I needed to wake him up and make him get up 'cause he would just refuse to leave his comfy bed. After that, we've just had dry nights. The instructions say that you have to continue using the alarm for two dry weeks, and then use it two more weeks at random nights. We're following them to ensure dry nights.Maybe the combination of my son's age and the alarm made this process faster. I don't know... All I know is my prayers were answered! It worked for us, and I strongly recommend the product. I hope it works for you too!
