I wish a book like this had existed when I was in grade school.
I started reading this book to my children, ages 8, 10 AND 11 years old from the day it arrived at our home and they request it even as part of our bedtime storytime routine. My 10 year old has a lot of anxiety when it comes to math, but she enjoys this book as if it was a story book, not a math text, and she is never anxious or upset when we go over each lesson. We enjoy the cartoons that open each lesson and they help introduce what Danica is about to teach in a really fun, easy to understand way, along with history facts that I never knew and I love that. Danica is an amazing math teacher and really makes learning math fun. Even I am learning new things as we go through the book and catch myself saying, "oh! I didn't know that..!" or I learn things in a different way that is so much easier than learning just math facts. I wish a book like this had been around when I was learning multiplication and division as a child. I still remember learning just by flash cards and memorization, which was anxiety inducing and so not fun. Reading this book with all of my kids, even my eldest, who enjoys the cartoons and math review for herself, is always a fun get together for us, to learn math AND a bit of history. I love teaching my youngest ones through Danica's words and fun methods and I can't wait to see how much they learn by the time we're through.

2nd-4th Grade Parents - Definitely add this to your library!
I just got this book in yesterday, and I can already tell it will be a great addition to my classroom math literature collection. Danica McKellar does a wonderful job of explaining essential concepts related to multiplication and division in an engaging way that also breaks down some of the “new math” that can be very confusing to families because we (yes, I am included in that category so it was an adjustment for me too) only learned the algorithms/process when we were in school.I can already envision using the comics to engage students with new concepts and the rhymes for some of the trickier facts to help out my kiddos who struggle to memorize them. The visuals for 2x2 multiplication with the area model and long division are great as well!!Multiplication and Division are such an important foundation for our students to build upon as they enter more challenging levels of mathematics, and this book is a great way to get them interested and really understanding it!!A must have for your 2nd, 3rd or 4th grader!!

Why you need to order it
Amazon got this book delivered to me the very next day which was great because I was feeling very motivated to keep my son's math skills on point during the summer. He has just started with it and really enjoys the comic portion. And the Game Time is fun for us to do together. Colors are bright and it seems to be keeping him fully engaged which lets be honest is hard to do. Thank Danica, I'm loving this because I'm not good at math myself so its making it easy for me to help my son. 💞

"Multiplication is repeated addition."
Right from the start this book makes math sound easy, doable and fun. There is no one right, or only way presented for various concepts, and I appreciate the author taking the time to note how the previous generation most likely learned to do something versus how it is being taught now. For those of us struggling to understand terms like "base 10" and "new math" reading a book that focuses on the math, how to get it done, how it most likely looks at school (and showing more than one possible version) is nice. There are some great memory tricks in here for kids still learning the difference between rows and columns, and the times machine is simply fun, as are the characters that go on this learning adventure.

My daughter looks forward to reading this everyday!
My 10 year old daughter has struggled with math. She dreaded practicing her multiplication flash cards but didn’t have them all memorized, causing her to take longer than needed to do her math work. I heard about The Times Machine and noted the fun and playful approach to learning multiplication and division. I knew this technique sounded perfect for my daughter. I surprised her with the book and we agreed to snuggle up together to read it. Now she looks forward to reading it everyday and she absolutely LOVES it! We both laugh and enjoy reading it together. Thank you for creating such a fun, helpful and amazing resource to help my girl master those facts once and for all!

My 3rd grader loves it!
This book is a math book disguised as a graphic novel! My third grader loved reading this and finding all the cool strategies for multiplication. She loves graphic novels and really loved following the characters. Every few pages you will find a "GAME TIME!' and she enjoyed those pages. She had previously read DO NOT OPEN THIS MATH BOOK, and I loved watching her engaged in reading a math book. As a second grade teacher, I love seeing these types of book in the hands of my students. Once my 1st grader is done reading it, it will make it's way to my classroom library.

Educational but also FUN
My daughter started the year struggling with multiplication and division. She now asks to "study Times Machine" and has brought her grade up from a C to an A. She's found a love for math with this book!

This book is wonderful!
I recently purchased this book for my 3rd grader. We both love this. I bought this book with hopes of helping my 3rd grader understand math and the concept of multiplication and division better, and it was thr best decision! My 3rd grader absolutely loves it! She reads it with such interest! The language it is written with is easy for kids to understand. The story is captivating, and characters are adorable and interesting. The explanation is perfectly written and finally my daughter is looking forward to learning more, rather than running away from it. We give it 5 stars! And definitely would recommend it!
