Estes Rocket Wadding Recovery Wadding D-ES2274 Heat Shields

Never fired a model rocket before but you just tear off around 3-4 squares of this wadding and put it in the rocket body above the engine, before putting the shock cord and parachute in, followed by the nose cone. When the recovery charge pops a few seconds after apogee, the wadding allows enough pressure to build up to blow the nose cone off and the parachute to deploy.....had three successful flights and recovery phases using it.

Estes rockets need this particularly to be responsible if launching anywhere near vegetation from the point of fire risk prevention, they should just make it cheaper.
