DJL Projector Lamp Bulb Replacement Kit Retrofit Ez to Install W/Video Manual Bell & Howell

PROS:1. Acquisition Cost. At the time of this review, it cost $72.60 (including tax) to buy this kit. That's about half of the best price I could find for a DJL bulb.2. Replacement Cost. A new halogen bulb costs far less than a DJL bulb and is much easier to find.3. Construction: The kit is well-designed, sturdy, and functional. It includes everything you need.4. Reliability. The halogen bulb that's included in the kit should last for 200 hours. That's far longer than the 15 hours the DJL bulb is expected to last.5. Ease of Installation. A screwdriver is the only tool needed. Two insulated wires are installed in the bulb socket, and two screws (included in the kit) are installed in the unused socket holes to fasten the steel plate in position. The whole process takes five minutes.6. Operation: The new halogen bulb is at least as bright as the DJL bulb but does not get as hot. Operation of the projector is the same as before.CONS: None. At least, none that I could find.Conclusion: This DJL replacement kit is a WIN in every category. If you have an old Bell & Howell projector, this kit is a must-have. Kudos to the company that designed it.

Although this product is pricey, it was a smart repair for my ancient-but-still-functional Bell & Howell super 8 film projector, whose bulb had burned out long ago. (Replacement bulbs are still available, but are much more expensive than this simple DIY kit.)The kit consists of a well-designed, sturdy steel-frame holding a perfectly placed receptacle for a modern-standard 2-prong bulb. The frame comes pre-assembled, and requires only inserting two insulated wires into the projector's bulb receptacle, and tightening with two easy-to-position screws (provided with the kit). A single screwdriver is the only tool needed. There is no trimming or cutting required of any electrical wiring. The installation is almost foolproof. Once installed, the bulb functions exactly as before.Not that most people will need this, but the kit is easy to remove if you want to install it in a different projector.The kit comes with no instructions (because the kit fits several different brands of projectors), BUT links to excellent online videos are provided, showing how the kit can be installed in each of the different projectors.I have attached 8 sequential photos to this review, illustrating the 5-minute installation process.Kudos to this small firm for developing and selling such an innovative solution.

It’s the perfect solution works as advertised, however you will not just plug it in. Honestly it was no big deal to install but without any instructions I think the average person would have trouble with this. Maybe include some diagram, be a little more honest in your pitch.

Was very easy to install liked the instructions and video

This replacement kit took mom's old movie projector from a non working machine to soo much fun viewing old movies. I like knowing that the new bulb can be easily replaced verses trying to find a vintage bulb that someone found in their basement and charging for 3x's the price. The installation was a little more than described in the instructions, but I was easily able to get it installed.

Be careful when screwing it to the projector. The projector is plastic and it is easy to strip the screw holes.

I was not about to pay hundreds of dollars for an obsolete lamp to run 45 year old Bell and Howell movie projector. This retrofit frame and bulb were very easy to install, although I had to use thinner screws than those supplied for my projector. I was able to play the old movies with no problems. And now a replacement bulb can be found at any hardware store.

The kit was perfect. It was easy to put in and works great. My wife was very happy that we were able to watch our old family movies.
