Optimize for Growth: How to Scale Up Your Business, Your Network and You

If you know a budding entrepreneur or MBA student, buy them this book!
When I started my business, I thought I could do it alone. I wish I would have read OPTIMIZE for Growth when I was just starting out. Things got off to a slow start. Then, a friend recommended that I talk with a CPA. He helped me set up the business the "right way", but also started talking to his clients about my products. He went on to connect me with an attorney, and my attorney also started talking to his customers about us. They were like free salespeople (ok, in full disclosure, I treated them to dinner gift cards for referrals), but, before I knew it, customers were calling and sales were closing. Jonathan Smith captures this model of building a network of advisors and creating a great business foundation. My advisors are a trusted sounding board for making major decisions: creating new products, and the implications of leases, contracts, major hiring, major customers and more. If you know a budding entrepreneur or MBA student, buy them this book! Do them the favor of writing an encouraging note inside the cover and share it with them! They'll thank you soon enough.

Jonathan's book is a must read for any entrepreneur. He unveils the value of being 100% responsible for leveraging your business (running it on ONE operating system), your network (peer insight and support), and yourself (tapping into your potential as a leader). He keeps it simple and straight forward, using real-life examples (no theory). If you want your business to grow, you must have all three structures in place. Excellent book quickly laying out actionable strategies for entrepreneurs and executives to "break through the ceiling" professional and personally. If you are interested in growing you business and yourself, take a few hours to read Optimize For Growth. Jonathan lay's out three key strategies: running an operating system for your business, building your network through a peer organization and hire a coach. This book has helped me clarify some ideas that have been rumbling around for me. Great job on a "fluff-free" book. Highly recommended.

Clear and concise; definitely worth the read
Jonathan Smith integrates his business acumen and the tools described in Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business in a way that can be immediately applied to any company. He clearly and concisely explains the most common issues affecting firms and provides solutions to start atomizing those problems. He suggests the humbling idea of seeking help from outside sources in addition to solving issues from within. From personal experience of working with Jonathan on solving my company's most intimidating issues, his methods absolutely work time and time again. Definitely worth the read.

Simple, to the point and highly actionable...
No business owner is an island unto him/herself. In this compact and impactful book Jonathan Smith discusses three critical areas every leader needs to grow and nurture -- your network, your firm's operating systems and your personal support system -- including both peer groups and individual coaching. In fact, there is a very quick personal coaching assessment form that helps leaders explore their personal "coachability." -- that alone is worth the price.

Direct and Awesome -- One of My New All Time Faves
Absolutely phenomenal.Business books can be dreary and repetitive, but this cuts straight to the point: What do you need to do to scale up? I have read countless books where I end up synthesizing and outlining over and over again to arrive at a few core points. Smith elucidates the most important ideas in such a clear, direct way-- it is like having an eloquent speaker in your ear.I have everyone in my organization reading it (and will likely have them do so on a quarterly basis).Amazing read!!
